Affirmative action was never a complete answer in the drive towards a more just society. But for generations of students who had been systematically excluded from most of America’s key institutions—it gave us the chance to show we more than deserved a seat at the table.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision, it’s time to redouble our efforts.
@zakkohane I think it’s more interesting that there are thousands of EHR (epic/cerner) sql analysts out there writing the exact same code for hundreds or thousands of hospitals, when it could possibly be easily shared among them instead. That’s the real waste, not just reducing metrics.
@anothercohen Very cool - did it purposefully not address the renal insufficiency? Or just because it’s urgent care? 90% agreement is a solid start.
Can providers speak naturally or do they have to talk like they’re dictating a note in front of the patient? Wonder that w/ complex diff dx…
@chrissyfarr Ugh. That’s awful. I definitely find myself being cautiously observant of peoples behavior around me, more so than when not in the city and especially when out with my kids. And that’s an unfortunate way to enjoy our city. We’re on car window #3 and laptop #2 😞
@atulbutte Interesting! Looks pretty similar to prior @onemedical process - could easily get care for things that didn’t require exam/history without video or in person visit - cystitis, etc- just by text. If it decompresses our Emergency Departments, I’m for it!
@DGlaucomflecken The only thing colder than neuroprotective hypothermia is an insurance company denying critical elements of its treatment. That’s ice cold 🥶🥶
You can browse data on the states with the weakest (and strongest) gun laws on @GiffordsCourage. The snapshot below makes me wonder why our academic organizations preaching #GunSafety continue to hold national conferences in many of these states @AmerAcadPeds @ACEPNow @SAEMonline
It’s All About Trust: 90% of Danes trust their national health authorities & public decision makers, 86% of Danes have been vaccinated. USA vaccinations are lagging below 50% in many states & we may add another 100K deaths this this fall. ❤️🇩🇰🇺🇸 https://t.co/xxVcDOUmM4
Tonight, California voted NO on the recall and YES to…
Science.
Women’s rights.
Immigrant rights.
The minimum wage.
The environment.
Our future.
We rejected cynicism and bigotry and chose hope and progress.
Thank you, California.
As an added challenge, SFUSD’s “close contact” definition seems to have no relation to CDC. Most importantly, if kids are masked, you’re not close contacts by @CDCgov ; but for SFUSD, it seems more like any cumulative amount of time adding up to 15 minutes in a day. 🤯
Thanks to SFUSD’s protocols, my 2nd grader is now out of school for 1 week despite being asymptomatic and with no clear understanding of how serious the exposure was and NO distance learning support.
Yet if we attended Oakland Public Schools, she’d be back tomorrow. 🧐
There are <10 children hospitalized across UCSF's hospitals either with COVID or because of COVID. There is NOT a pediatric surge in the bay area. Yet, SFUSD is calling a special meeting on 8/31 to further tighten COVID protocols. Not medically warranted.

Still, even though it’s challenging to continue to work and homeschool, we all do our part to prevent spread. So we use the Abbot BinaxNOW tests before going anywhere masked. 😷
Negative.
