It's @JACSConsortium advocacy week, which mean it's time to reach out to your members of Congress to ask them to support S 988, the Senate version of the Japanese American Confinement Education Act that passed the House unanimously last week.
I recently visited Amache, a former Japanese Incarceration camp in Colorado. There, I met with survivors and descendants to learn from and bear witness to the trauma that has haunted this community for generations.
GREAT NEWS —
President Biden just signed my Amache National Historic Site legislation into law!
Grateful to the many students, survivors and activists who made this bill a reality.
The imprisonment of 120,000 innocent Japanese Americans during WWII cannot be forgotten. We're so proud that CAPAC leaders @RepJudyChu & @RepMarkTakano are @ the WH as @POTUS signs a law making the Amache prison camp a federal historic site. Education is one way to #StopAsianHate

Today, the House passed my bill — the Japanese American Confinement Education Act.
This bill seeks to preserve the voices of Japanese Americans who were stripped from their homes under Executive Order 9066 & sent to remote camps — my first months were spent in a camp.
