ggchemplot, a package I developed for drawing chemical structures using ggplot2, is now a web app built with Shiny and shinylive. This is a game-changer for building R/Shiny applications.

My R package ggchemplot is now available as a standalone windows executable: ggchemplotApp. This software is a Shiny app based on ggchemplot and compiled as a Windows .exe via RInno/Inno.

Optical density of 48 a.u.! The maximum I ever reached with M. maripaludis in a fermenter with 80% CO2 / 20% H2 / 0.01% H2S was around 4. I wish this paper came out 4 years ago. 😅

I've been suspicious of the philosophers hired by Anthropic who specialize in AI ethics for similar reasons that I'm skeptical of those who went into "bioethics": they form a closed subculture that delights in clever arguments without regard to the human suffering that can result. | ‘Suicidal Compassion’: Meet the Anthropic Officials Who Think AI Might Be Justified in Going Rogue Against the Humans Enslaving It https://t.co/TpXAVyAaW8
The thing that bothers me about GoT dragons is their fire.
They need fuel. Methanogens in the gut produce methane. A hypothetical “dragonase” enzyme ignites it, then a specialized bladder propels the jet.
But methane burns blue under optimal conditions.
Those orange flames are incomplete combustion.
They’re wasting fuel. The dragons could be far more efficient. 🙄
