Mount Sinai researchers, in collaboration with the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, have developed an AI tool that supports safer, more precise blood sugar management after heart surgery.
The model, called GLUCOSE, uses reinforcement learning to recommend real-time insulin doses tailored to ICU patients. In a recent study published in NPJ Digital Medicine, it matched or outperformed experienced clinicians—using only current patient data.
Developed by experts at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, including the Institute for Critical Care Medicine and the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health, GLUCOSE is designed to assist—not replace—physicians, helping reduce complications and improve patient outcomes.
Future plans include integration into EHR systems, clinical trials, and broader hospital applications.

We looked at four Friday the 13th's between 2022 and 2024 and found they were not associated with an increase in EMS calls or cardiac arrests – myth busted!
