@matz_emmett@KIN110UofR It was the companies money, so they kinda have the freedom to do whatever they want with it. Maybe if it was taxpayer money it would be a different story
@KieranGelowitz@KIN110UofR NHL wants to have a team in that region, and if you look at it as a long term investment, doesn’t seem too bad. AZ has good prospects coming up, and maybe Matthews is fed up in Toronto and wanting to return home. That could make the cost seem worth it.
@paranuik@KIN110UofR Probably his history on Sportsnet, he was part of the most iconic broadcast in Canadian history. Sad day for hockey fans and a bummer that kids won’t listen to him in Coach’s Corner or rock ‘em sock ‘em movies
"Off The Floor, On The Board" - Scott Stevens / Paul Kariya - Stanley Cu... https://t.co/O8JWpqSyWI via @YouTube@KIN110UofR An example of how back in the day they would throw you back on the ice. Years later Kariya says he couldn’t remember events leading up to the hit
@HautzMadyson@KIN110UofR I think it is ok, it is also used in professional scenes too. NHL top prospect Adam fantilli is 2004 born, whereas this draft is typically for 2005 born players. His birthday is in October, making him eligible for the 2023 draft vs 2022
@Joey8214@KIN110UofR I like that. They name isn’t as derogatory as redskins or Indians, and the name has such heritage so it would be a bummer to see it go
@KIN110UofR Trends in youth sport, how playgrounds have changed from what I grew up with to the standards nowadays. It used to be you learn your limits by getting injured, now kids don’t experience the same playgrounds as I did, and the limits of their ability are restricted beforehand.
@KIN110UofR Athletes are responsible for their choices. Maybe hiring a financial coach can help save money from unnecessary spending? Programs such as Moose jaw’s gear vault collect used (decent shape) gear for hockey and football, so families can get gear for cheap or free
@HautzMadyson@KIN110UofR Sports are expensive agreed, but Leagues need money and unfortunately money doesn’t grow on trees. There are many cheaper sports out there, basketball for instance. Track, volleyball, and flag football don’t require a lot of gear, or the best gear to be successful
@KIN110UofR Lots of alternate sports have the same structure as typical sports these day. Tournaments, leagues, and sponsors are present in a lot of those alternative sports. To me if you have fun doing a ‘sport’ then play, it’s what u like to do
@KIN110UofR Mine were pretty safe, I grew up in a newer neighbourhood so slides were plastic. The playground floor material was gravel which was interesting though
@KIN110UofR My buddy from Notre Dame in Wilcox said that there were study halls weekly for students to go and catch up on work. With a lot more academy schools opening and offering practices as substitutions for gym class, the schools are still emphasizing learning while providing time 1/2
@KIN110UofR@insider_ct Money does equal resources, but money doesn’t buy effort. For example, my highschool cross country and track team has no funding except for jerseys. But our coach was a cougar alum, and we’ve beat out teams from Swift Current, Regina and Saskatoon. The coach IMO matters the most.
@KIN110UofR If it were the 40s I would imagine I’d be at war. I am unsure if I would still play hockey as baseball was the most popular sport at the time. I think sports would be an escape for a lot of people, however if you chose sports over war you would look weak. #KIN110
@yasheave@KIN110UofR If they have testosterone at the same level as a male it provides an unfair advantage to everyone else competing on the women’s side. It’s effectively doping
