@Brenanabread99 I agree Brennen, we each processed the information from this semester so differently. It was pleasing to see how we each kept circling back to the concept of DH being both interactive and educational as well
After being in the class for the entire semester I keep finding myself thinking about ways to incorporate my work into a hypothetical digital humanities projects in other classes, the inherent interdisciplinary nature of the field brings so many new possibilities. #cnuengl350
It was nice to be able to end the semester discussing how everyone in the class views digital humanities. Seeing our collective understanding and the ways in which we differ or are similar brought good insight into how we each processed the past weeks.
@AllyW1109@bradya350 Ally I totally had the same feelings, I'm getting excited as we near the deadline because I know each peer review helped my project to be its best.
I was very appreciative of Lizzie helping me with my resume, she pointed out some structural things that could look better if I fixed them. Very glad for her perspective.
My resume is very specific to my field and wouldn't generally fit the requirements that those of other fields would have to meet. Seeing the difference between a heavily interdisciplinary based field resume and one for an incredibly specific field is so interesting.
@AllyW1109 I agree, the reviews are definitely eye opening and can help not only the person we're reviewing but can be a place of learning as we look at our classmates' work.
I'm appreciative of @KFerguson350 for her review of my grant narrative and budget, there were definitely some parts that I knew could have worked better and she pointed out exactly how they would be more beneficial to the reader.
While working on my grant proposal, I'm having to take the time to think about the interdisciplinary value of my project and where it could be important in other fields, and by looking at it from other perspectives such as public history I can argue its importance more deeply.
I'm glad that I was able to work with Jack again on Monday, having the peer reviews has always been beneficial to not only get an assessment on where I can improve in my own work but to get a sense of what my classmates are thinking of the assignment as well.
@kat_campbell99 I completely relate. I originally wanted to cover many different trends across three different social media platforms, but Dr. Stover helped me narrow my search to one trend found on tiktok. I'm glad to know that others were so excited about their projects that they went so broad
There is very little research on fashion trends in response to major events and its impact on fashion forecasting, let along anti-fashion, so there is no real DH project that is appropriate for my environmental scan. I'm looking at some that cover the broader territory of fashion
I had a nice meeting with Dr. Stover. We talked about using a different program to facilitate my project and she sent me along some fashion projects that analyze trends using a more visually-focused medium. Now I'm focused on using something that will portray my images far better
@LSix642 Lizzie, this is something that I too assumed for my last grant. The personal connection and less formal tone really convinces the people who are giving the grant that they too have a stake in the project that will benefit you, the community, and for them by giving you the money.
I read @Annie_ClaireD 's review and I agreed with many of her points about the project, mostly about the main page having large chunks of text that should be broken up. The review was well written and acknowledged the main function of the project as data visualization well.
Having written a grant for ENGL 454 in a team, I'm a little nervous to write one myself, but am glad to know that our requirements are far fewer than the approx. 40 pages my team wrote. The articles we've been reading have also reclarified the style a grant requires after so long
In anticipation of our feedback on the grant abstracts, I'm wondering if my potential project on hashtag popularity of pandemic anti-fashion trends is suitable for the size we're going for and the netlytic tool. I was so torn on another project about faithful representations of..
@Brenanabread99 presented specifically for the anniversary of the campus & family weekend. A condemnation of the school's history in a main part of our public library would have led to her exhibit being denied.
@Brenanabread99 My colleague actually wrote these labels! In her research developing this exhibit she wanted to make sure to note the controversy at all, along with how it developed. Being a museum studies student, she had to present it with fact-based neutrality - especially with them being...
