5 years on from #Grenfell, nothing has changed for many leaseholders who are still living in unsafe buildings unable to move, still punished financially and mentally on a daily basis.

They are effectively paying the price for a crisis they did not create, and for trusting a government-backed scheme that promised an affordable home.

This is why we are calling on the Government to fund a national buyback scheme for shared ownership homes.

Shared owners are affected by having to reduce price and lose all the deposit that they put down originally which should have helped them move on.

@paullewismoney I agree with you, Paul. Market value is what a willing buyer will pay. Yet as a shared owner, I must sell at the (often higher) *RICS* valuation.

If a buyer offers less, I must pay the difference on 100% shares to the housing association.

That's why many of us are trapped.

Even when you do staircase to 100% you get ripped off - @lbbdcouncil rejected the valuation provided by their preferred surveyor when I stair-cased and insisted I pay £40k more than the valuation as they “felt it was worth more”.

I was effectively held to ransom for the rest of my home.

Victims of the building safety crisis are charged twice the normal council tax for 'second home' / empty home.

I was sold a so-called 'affordable' home (shared ownership) and it turned out to be unaffordable, as well as unsafe.

Despite warm words in opposition, your govt hasn't done anything to solve the building safety crisis.

Building more fire traps won't help anyone.

@LAURENCSTANLEY It was a roof over my head. It was sold as affordable housing. It isn't. It's a prison I can't escape from, with unmanageable escalating costs. Housing providers make estate agents look like good Samaritans.

I'd go back to renting in a flash if I could. Most shared owners would.
