@IAFFPresident@BrianRoss For those in the fire service and those who are in school to become FF, please educate yourselves on this emerging long-term exposure health issue.

I had the opportunity to sit down with @BrianRoss to discuss the battle we are in to remove toxic PFAS from our turnout gear.
Cancer continues to wreak havoc on the health of firefighters and we will not waver in our commitment to #ExtinguishCancer

@yourturnoutgear @jhudson82 @TheRovingSkip @EPA@EPAMichaelRegan @gfpeaslee @StationPride@LastCall_LCF@NotreDame How do I know if my station wear has the optional finish? Pour a few drops of water on you short or pants. If it beads up it has a finish. This is a brand new pair of 100% Nomex station wear pants. Yep it has a finish.
@yourturnoutgear @jhudson82 @TheRovingSkip @EPA@EPAMichaelRegan @gfpeaslee @StationPride@LastCall_LCF@NotreDame Not so fast. If you review NFPA 1975 sec 7.3, it also has a optional water absorption resistance test, yes The same one required on structural PPE. In your effort to add a nomex base layer you could’ve inadvertently put a PFAS DWR next to your skin
@NFPA You’re a bit disconnected NFPA. While we’re concerned about PFOA in legacy gear (pre 2015), the actual conversation taking place is removal of all PFAS from Structural FF PPE. Much larger than just one man made chemical. #YOURTURNOUTGEAR
@OneTallMedic @IAFFNewsDesk @IAFFPresident@ewg@redacted Unfortunately, this shows that the industry has done a very good job in improperly educating FF on PFAS dangers and putting profits before FF health and safety. #shameonthem
@RegularMatt@Kiel_Samsing This has been an issue for at least the past 10 years. I believe there may have been a recall from some hose manufacturers. There’s no way to fix. Hose should be place OOS.
We have also seen it on some 2.5” hose.
@mswilding@PJNorwood@LION_Gear@DarkWatersMovie@frankriccidc@smittchy @yourturnoutgear @gfpeaslee Mike I do not know you or what your background is, I presume the FD. While I partly agree with you, you have not been a part of our conversations with one gear manufacture in particular, this would be Lion. These manufacturers have more pull in what we wear than you think.
@LunaBlume@RegularMatt@LION_Gear @yourturnoutgear Yes, words matter.
The fabric finish, PF Zero by Safety Components is PFAS Free.
They are using their same fabrics but are putting on a PFAS free finish.
This new finish will be available to all PPE manufacturers

@mswilding@PJNorwood@LION_Gear@DarkWatersMovie@frankriccidc@smittchy @yourturnoutgear @gfpeaslee Lion did come to my fire house in Jan. 2020. You’ve not been part of these meeting and any other dialog I /we’ve had with Lion. This meeting was with Karen and Andy one of the owners
Have you heard about the volleyballs and tennis balls. Biggest line of bullshit I’ve ever heard.
@mswilding@PJNorwood@LION_Gear@DarkWatersMovie@frankriccidc@smittchy @yourturnoutgear @gfpeaslee I can speak first hand on the gear that was tested. It was older and newer gear.
Lions, in my personal opinion, has not interest in providing the truth about PFAS in PPE.
**ALL LIONS ISODRY THERMAL LINERS PRIOR TO 2015/16 ABSOLUTELY HAVE PFOA (C8) IN THEM.
@mswilding@RegularMatt@PJNorwood@LION_Gear@NeilMcMillan162@OPFFALocal_162 Unfortunately you’ve been incorrect information about PFAS in PPE. It is absolutely in all NFPA 1971 certified outershells, ask any manufacture. In approximately 2015 PFOA(C8) chemical was remove. Only to be replaced with a C6 version of the old C8
@yourturnoutgear @PJNorwood@Elb3001 @gfpeaslee @SafetyComponent All MB have PTFE (Teflon) in it. The only manufacture that puts the DWR finish on the thermal liner is Lions Apparel. You’ve probably heard of ISO DRI. That’s the stuff
