In this short News & Views piece, @dav_robbe and I covered the recent @Joejpaton's lab paper by @_MonteiroTiago_ et al where they manipulate the speed of striatal dynamics with temperature.

Coolest (hottest?) work I’ve been part of. 🔥/❄️ striatum speeds/slows neural dynamics, causes over/under-estimation of time… both 🔥/❄️ reduce baseline neural activity, slow movement. @_MonteiroTiago_ , @rodriguesflipe , and M. Pexirra. Meaning? Read: https://t.co/m5jGh91CRK
✨Exciting news! Our research on parallel decision computations is just out in @NatureNeuro !

With it, here goes my first attempt at a #tweetprint ! 🧵
Happy to share this new @biorxivpreprint on the cognitive and computational determinants of choice-seeking, led by @JeromeMunuera, with M. Ribes Agost, D. Bendetowicz, A. Kerebel, co-supervised by Brian Lau @brian6091 and myself.

🚨First preprint from the lab!! All credit goes to @cesca_gst & @HernyMV who co-led this project. https://t.co/5eqppysezR
We show that movement-related striatal dopamine signals encode an action prediction error, a value free teaching signal.

Dario Farina and I are looking for PhD students + Postdocs to work on the neural control of motoneurons at @imperialcollege. Projects will span a combination of basic neuroscience, motor control and "Muscle-Computer Interfaces"
Come find me at #NCMDub22@ncm_soc if you're curious
Recently out, a cover i did for @MoitaLab, @sbl_nin et. al on @TrendsCognSci. They wrote a review on how rodents can feel others' struggles and fears and show pro social and empathic behaviors. 1/

@dav_robbe Thanks David, and please don't stop reading after the initial experiments... The modeling really tied the room together, and made predictions that were tested in further experiments. Modeling hugely inspired by the work of @markdhumphries
Beautiful cover by @GilCostaDesign in @TrendsCognSci of our paper with @sbl_nin and @e_knapska "Emotional contagion and prosocial behavior in rodents".

@koen_vervaeke Nah, in my view nothing in here is inconsistent with the classic textbook views, but the work does suggest some elaboration of the basic picture in ways that I find exciting and important. Not biased at all, btw.
Congrats guys! Three papers from @Neuro_CF are out on the same day, tackling parallel, serial, and feedback mechanisms underlying behavioral control and how internal states (in different senses of the word) control outward behavior. We should build a model #animat
