Design matters at side road junctions. How best to enhance priority for crossing 🚸🚵♀️? Setback? Two-way cycle track? Zebra? Pleased to share our recent publication that provides the answers: https://t.co/Ali3ZN7LLp @TransPlanSoc@ianwalker @RantyHighwayman @Phil_PJA @bricycle

🚴♂️🚶♀️Enhanced side road junction designs can significantly improve #pedestrian & #cyclist priority. 🚶♀️🚴♂️
With actual data, the study shows that designs with zebra crossings result in a 91.7% driver yield rate! 🚗👈 🌍

Stationnée sur le trottoir, branchée à un fil qui passe par la boîte aux lettres et les piétons sur la chaussée en plein carrefour, c'est ça l'avenir de la mobilité ? 🚗🔌🚶♂️⚠
I was sharing the many benefits of @TransPlanSoc with our new cohort of @UWE_CTS Transport Engineering & Planning MSc students earlier today, including free membership to students and apprentices.

@rogerha@TransPlanSoc@ianwalker @RantyHighwayman @Phil_PJA @bricycle A sub-set of drivers force pedestrians & cyclists to yield by their behaviour, 11% at the controls & this is 1.1 times more likely with enhanced marking with zebra and 1.4 times with enhanced design.

@rogerha@TransPlanSoc@ianwalker @RantyHighwayman @Phil_PJA @bricycle The effect of enhancement appears to reduce the proportion of occasions when people crossing yield voluntarily at the control junctions (46%) to negligible levels.

Our PhD candidate Sanjeev Neupane is presenting the aims of 2nd work package of #safetripnepal 'to improve public transport safety in Nepal' at the project launch @UWE_CTS
Good to hear. I am here daily & have seen @ASPBristol officers stuck in queues of drivers breaching the restrictions, slowing down buses, play chicken with approaching cyclists & threatening pedestrians both in East St & when some break another reg. by turning right into Dalby Av
Traffic & parking on East St
Thank you @ASPolice@BristolCouncil
A joint operation is in place to step up traffic enforcement following concerns raised by residents & traders about the risk to pedestrians & cyclists from increased levels of traffic & breaches of restrictions

Interesting heavy targeting of services that are slowed by congestion eg 75/6 & 48/24 on Gloucester & Stapleton Rds rather than ones that are lightly used highlighting #Bristol's failure to provide needed bus priority that James Freeman (ex @FirstBSA) asked for years ago
Quite staggering announcement by First Bus. Decimation of the bus network with little regard for passengers or elected reps. Understand the driver & cost issues but this is no genuine partnership. WECA needs to become proper transport authority & move to franchising key routes.
