Excited to share the pre-print describing our efforts to stabilize the HCMV gB ectodomain in a prefusion-like conformation. We and others have now routinely stabilized class I viral fusion proteins, but class III viral fusogens have been more difficult.

Researchers are actually very interested in developing DNA as digital information storage. It's because you can store so many bits in a tiny space.
@wtyppod@fancywookiee@AliceAvizandum Solid-phase synthesis is how we manually synthesize a stretch of DNA with any programmable sequence, base by base. The DNA is actually still dissolved in solution, but one end gets chemically attached to a solid support. Then you start building from the other end, base by base.
