Extraordinary year for Vanderbilt Heart. 174 heart transplants (108 DBD/66 DCD). Over 160,000 miles traveled. Spanning 46 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Nearly 1900 hours invested in recoveries. 75+ LVADs. Incredible teamwork. Grateful to our patients/donors. Look forward to 2025 - a year without machines?

@renatopllopes@drjohnm No, he’s not. We should 100% advocate for our patients. By definition, that is political. It’s only okay to be apolitical if you do not care for your patients. As a physician-scientist, it’s the same with science. You either support good science or you don’t.
It’s going to be difficult in the coming weeks but I think clinicians should try hard to stay apolitical in the public sphere. We owe it to our patients.
