Behavioral neuroscientist studying forward projecting circuits in insects including the Sphinx moth Manduca sexta and the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.
I was a summer student in this program in @KCDaly's lab many years ago! it's such a great program and I had such a positive experience. In so many ways, this program set me up for my career today.
Reflecting some more on 1 yr of online & hybrid instruction: Dr. Sue Raylman teaches human anatomy and labs in spring and fall, and moving this very hands-on course to a virtual lab was a challenge she overcame with the help of amazing TAs (1/4)
I'm really proud that my lab is starting to do things without me. Like giving each other feedback on practice talks and coming up with legit scientific ideas collaboratively. I'm pleasantly looking forward to becoming increasingly less essential.
Final reflection on 1 year of online instruction: We could not have made the transition of online and hybrid biology labs without the help of our amazing lab managers. They've worked so hard this past year to make practical learning in biology possible! Remember to thank them.
Dear friends, we're hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow! Our team works on molecular and circuit mechanisms of movement disorders, and RNA biology pathways in neurodegeneration. If you love elegant experiments and are interested in working in a collaborative & multidisciplinary /1
My lab is hiring. We have openings for postdocs and a hardware/software engineer. If you are interested in neuronal circuits underlying behavior, high-throughput structural and functional imaging, and/or large-scale data analysis please apply https://t.co/rvzOruP5jC
My lab is looking for new grad students. We study multi-sensory-motor integration in drosophila and manduca. We take a neuroethological approach:behavior physiological, and anatomy (including connectomics) approaches. Interested? Contact me. Friends, please retweet 🙏
Massive thanks to Dirk, @DanMetcalfSR & Michelangelo from @Scientifica_Int for helping us design and install our new patch rigs, and a huge thank you to @dfg_public for funding us! Spending time in the office is going to be even more difficult in 2021 — #gottapatchemall.
Was just reached by the sad news that one of the founders of our field passed away yesterday. Professor Wittko Francke was the real ecological CHEMIST. And a great collaborator in many projects. Rest In Peace!
We're very excited to present DeepFly3D by @semihgunel_ to the community!
https://t.co/IkNduhhSKa
It performs 3D pose estimation in tethered, adult Drosophila.
No need for a calibration checkboard & it performs automatic error detection and active learning to retrain the network
