Dear @jaypanicker Facts:
Oil bonds first issued by the Vajpayee Govt in year 2002. Total amount of Oil bonds issued Rs 9,000 crores.
Further Rs1.4 lakh crore oil bonds issued by the UPA govt between 2005-2010 primarily to contain inflation during recession year of 2008/09.
Total interest paid by the UPA govt between 2009-2014 is approx Rs 53,163 crore.
Total interest paid by NDA govt between 2014-2022 is approx Rs 70,195 crores

Excise duty collected on petroleum products by UPA between 2004-2014 is Rs5.96 lakh crores

Excise duty collected on petroleum products by NDA between 2014-2025 is approx Rs26.71 lakh crores - Rs 27.5 lakh crores (figure for 2024-25 is provisional and has variations in different sources).

Indian Basket of Crude oil has steadily declined for the last 3 years and is currently at around $70/bbl.

Yet, NDA continues to charge high pump rates and refuses to pass on the benefit to consumers choosing to hide behind Oil Bond payments.

Petrol Price in Washington DC today is approx $3/Gallon which works out to be approx Rs70/l
Petrol Price in Delhi today is Rs94.77/l which is approx $4.11/Gallon

As a senior leader of the Congress, you might be aware of the Rs 1.41 lakh crores debt created by the UPA regime between 2004-14 through oil bonds due to its misgovernance. The subsidy not only ensured reduction in these debts, as Rs 1.32 lakh crores have been paid back with interest but have also kept the prices largely stable. It must be noted that post the Ukraine Russia war, petrol sells at ~160 to ~200 Rs per liter in other major countries like the UK, Germany, etc. The price of petrol and diesel in India is about Rs 90 per liter. This rate is even less than the average rate of the US, which is about Rs 100 per liter. Hence, if anyone has to be blamed for high prices of petrol and diesel in the country, it's undoubtedly the corrupt Congress regime of 2004-14
