I'm deactivating this account. Sad but not unexpected, as nothing goes commercial without being sold to a random idiot, sooner or later. Will be on Mastodon, as @[email protected]. Donate to your Mastodon administrators. Federation is the only solution to stupidity. GN
@pholme Color-scale could be the culprit? Also, random fluctuations in degree are known to produce those little centrality hot/cold spots. But in a RGR the differences in values should be small for most feasible values of the damping factor \alpha... My2Cents
Our new paper identifying congestion hot spots is out @royalsociety. It can be applied to dynamically adapt the capacity of road segments according to the flow of vehicles, or reduce congestion through hotspot pricing. Wt @SergioGomezJ and @AleixBassolas👇

Last day of #CCS2022 starts with the society awards! This year the Emerging Researcher award goes to Aleix Bassolas, Michelle Feng and William Gilpin! Congratulations 🎉
@masonporter hehehehe! I do "The Great Programming Bake-off" in my MSc classes, and we also have the "Programmer of the Week" award in tutorials. @masonporter does it means we all should consider a TV career instead? 😜
Our paper on using random walks and first passage times to assess urban segregation was covered by PNAS Journal Club this week https://t.co/VERuna3CKC @sandrofsousa @NatureComms@QMULMaths
Our "Quantifying ethnic segregation in cities through random walks" with @sandrofsousa out today in @NatureComms https://t.co/q4ospHCLaX
Have a look to discover how random walks help detecting and quantifying heterogeneity and correlations in cities at all scales.
What is the best way to deploy contact-tracing apps for optimal disease containment? Find it out in our latest paper with @AleixBassolas@andreasantor0 @sandrofsousa and Silvia Rognone out today on @PhysRevResearch

Here's a Fun Fact (& not a very common view at research-oriented universities, it seems): If you aren't a good mentor & aren't a good colleague, then I don't give a rat's ass how good a mathematician you are.
If you treat people well (especially junior folks), then we can talk.
Our last work about integrating network structure and metadata using absorbing random walks and the map equation. Great collaboration with @m_rosvall@antoneri@AleixBassolas and Antoine Marot.

Curious about non-local relations between metadata and modular structure in your networks? Preprint with @AleixBassolas, @antoneri, Antoine Marot, and Vincenzo Nicosia: Metadata-informed community detection with lazy encoding using absorbing random walks. https://t.co/PWyTfWmVnM
