Many people have slowly forgotten about Jan 6... news cycles contribute heavily to what people retain. However today I sat in a court for the sentencing of a man who plead guilty to assaulting officers with a flag pole. I listened to his lawyer make the following statement: “as he threw the flag pole, he threw it in the direction of officers who were covered by riot gear. If there was an officer there without protection, one would have to ask why is that officer there without gear?" The judge interjected.. "victim blamimg?" All I could do is sit there and shake my head. Although many have forgotten, I promise I never will and I'll never stop fighting for accountability. No matter what. I thanked the prosecution for their tireless work as he thanked me for continuing to show up 1308 days later.

This is one of the hardest but also one of the most important warnings from the history of Auschwitz coming for us today.

Perpetrators were in fact people who accepted and followed an ideology that made them believe that they were better than others, an ideology that rationalized and promoted hatred & evil. This became part of their everyday lives and their environment.

They were not monsters. They were people: fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters. They had their family joys and problems, their favorite desserts or songs, hobbies or fears. They were people like us. But they also perpetrated horrible things, monstrous things on behalf of the ideology they believed in.

The perpetrators thought of themselves as moral people. And this is the scary part of this history. This is our human warning.

@greggnunziata Yes and no. He should have been convicted by the Senate. If what he did wasn’t worthy of disqualification nothing is.

The prosecutions are bc of crimes committed, he must be held accountable. Extending the weakness of the Senate into the justice system would be disastrous
