Excited to share our recent pre-print! The Vibrio cholerae encoded Nezha anti-phage system (SIR2-HerA) restricts virulent vibriophages ICP1, ICP2, and ICP3 by depleting NAD+ (Abi💀). However, an ICP1 isolate can overcome this by encoding putative NAD+ regenerating proteins! ⚡️
Please RT: @gem__atkinson is looking for a computational PhD student on a phage-bacteria interaction Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) / @scilifelab project. @anfossati is a co-pilot.

Really excited to share my first preprint as a postdoc! Here, we determined that the BREX-inhibitor, OrbA, encoded by the lytic phage ICP1 inhibits BREX through the ATPase BrxC in V. cholerae.

Woohoo, our paper on the discovery of 65 new phages dependent on conjugative plasmids is published in it's final form today in @NatureComms ! Here follows a thread (1/ ) https://t.co/8e7gXpAqsv
🦠What are the early-life colonization & assembly dynamics of bacteriophages? Out today online in
@cellhostmicrobe, our paper took a strain-resolved approach to investigate early phage colonizers.

Attention phage/microbiology 🧫🦠enthusiasts- my lab https://t.co/jX1gjqbCeu @UCBerkeley is hiring a staff research associate, an ideal opportunity for folks looking to gain research experience before grad school/professional school https://t.co/51KXJIjCXk please share!
Story time: when I started my postdoc with @WatersLabMSU in August last year, we aimed to use V. cholerae to understand how genetic interactions, including epistasis and pleiotropy, influences its pathogenesis and evolution. 1/18
@jwmodell lab and I are excited to celebrate #WorldPhageWeek this year with our new preprint, showing how CRISPR-Cas9 systems can respond to phage-encoded anti-CRISPRs and ultimately counterbalance Acr-phage infections! https://t.co/GiokjGwQDY
