24 acres Argyll, Me (she) creating living larders - permaculture and RegenAg principles, currently fallow & feral, abundant in natural diversity. Food=medicine
Upland farmers who farm on common land have found themselves excluded from future agri-environment schemes because the computer software prevents their applications.
This is a disaster for hill farmers, our environment, and our tourism economy.
I'm fighting to get this fixed.
First time I’ve managed herbal ley from new. This field has very shallow soil. Lots didn’t take initially so have grazed it three times since autumn. A total of 18 days with 350 sheep. It’s not rocket science, it’s just moving sheep. But it’s seems like a miracle. Very proud.
Too many deer - part of double bill with Scotland's Missing Forests at Larick Centre Tayport today Sunday 2pm.
Extra topical given Ferret research which shows 1 million deer in Scotland - 12 times govt maximum for natural woodland regeneration.

Started lambing today. This ewe was carrying triplets but 2 were dead, tiny and rotten. Nearly 40 ewes were scanned with rotten lambs in them, probably because someone let their dog chase the flock when they were in mid pregnancy. One irresponsible action, up to 80 dead lambs.
Obviously I am a bit weird about this by now but…
Peat map of doom klaxon!! In the new land use framework
@EmmaforWycombe fyi
The peat map is rubbish and SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR ANY GOVERNMENT DECISION MAKING.
Due to it not knowing what’s peat and what’s not, and all that…
'We're not getting rid of the water fast enough'
I cannot emphasise enough how insane it is to spend barrels of public money pumping water out of a *wetland*.
We are draining an ecological treasure to protect some of the crappest farmland in England.

@realDonaldTrump REMINDER: We have no idea how big or how small this storm will be because Donald Trump cancelled NOAA funding.
Over 40% of our nations weather balloons are non operational because of him.
A relatively small harvest (yes mining) is taken, from a finite overall pool of nutrients… but in a system that makes the amount of available nutrients massively higher, likely enough for decades or generations
And with a small amount of return from say bought minerals or crop
Bon Voyage 2025

Healthy soil is amazing
Our job is to feed it with photosynthesis and bring it to life so it can cycle soil reserve nutrients and make them ‘plant available’
The beautiful cows are just how we do it - if you’ve better soil than this post it
And I’ll hang on your every word
