"Recently, a statement has been issued opposing the proposal to ban unions, signed by 28 people including Kanak Mani Dixit. My view on this matter is as follows:
The unions or organizations have been rightly banned by the current government. These unions were not merely running a parallel government; they had been involved in criminal activities such as gang violence, destroying the academic environment, imposing lockouts, beating people up, and other similar illegal acts. Institutions like the Vice Chancellor of the university were turned into mere puppets by these groups. They resorted to abusive language, issued threats, and bargained shamelessly. Whatever they did, there was no wrongful act that they had not triedтАФthere was practically nothing they did not do.
In any developed, democratic country, such undesired and destructive unions do not exist today. In communist states, where the ruling powers are unpopular with the people, such organizations are often created to secure their own safety.
These groups are usually formed, nurtured, and supported by political leaders. From тАШNSUтАЩ ot тАШAkhilтАЩ or тАЬKrantikari,тАЭ and the various unions in government offices, all are essentially political institutions. They have repeatedly devastated the nationтАЩs institutions to serve their own interests and the interests of their leaders.
For the criminal acts these unions committed in the past, there now exists a clear need to file formal charges and legal cases against them. Cancelling their registration is in the best interest of both the country and the people. The current statement issued by certain individuals is not driven by genuine love for the nation, but by self interest and political opportunism. Under the pretext of calling themselves тАЬdemocrats,тАЭ these signatories have issued this statement merely to gain cheap popularity. They don't care how much damages these unions have done for the country. These so called critics do not actually work; instead, they seek titles and public recognition without contributing anything meaningful. Whenever others try to carry out serious work, they create obstacles, obstruct progress, and halt the countryтАЩs development. They are not believers in action, but in empty statements and cheap posturing.
This country needs democracy, but it does not need lawlessness. It needs order, not indiscipline. These individuals have either failed to understand this truth or, even if they understand it, they deliberately ignore it for their own vested interests."
