Agenda Item 5: Human rights Mechanism.

“Mr. President,

Today, we draw your attention to a grave and urgent situation faced by the indigenous people of #Manipur, India. These #indigenous communities stand on the brink of a dire conflict, initiated by cross-border narco-terrorist groups.

This conflict has resulted in a tragic toll of over 200 lives lost and the destruction of approximately 5,000 homes, leaving 60,000 people homeless.
Given these distressing circumstances, the peace-loving people of Manipur earnestly appeal to the Indigenous Mechanism and other relevant bodies within this council to facilitate communication with the government of #India:

1. To prioritize the pressing issue of #IllegalImmigrations and the widespread illicit cultivation of #OpiumPoppies covering an area exceeding 10s of thousand acres in the hills of Indo-Myanmar Borderland particularly in Manipur.

2. To urge the competent agencies and parties to take urgent initiatives by relevant mandates to address the gross violations of the human rights in the ongoing violence in Manipur.

3. To recognize and address the menace of narco-terrorism and emerging new #Goldentriangle and its far-reaching consequences on the longstanding ethnic harmony, economic stability, and ecological well-being of the Indigenous People in Manipur and WSEA region.

4. Given the suspected involvement of immigrant armed militant groups in narco- terrorist activities in the region including the ongoing violence in Manipur, we call for a thorough review of the policy of Suspension of Operations with such groups by govt. of India.

It is our hope that the council's collective efforts will help alleviate the suffering of the indigenous people of Manipur and contribute to a just and peaceful resolution of the current crisis

‘Fallen Hero’ Sathang returns, says drank too much

One Satkhothang Kipgen alias Sathang ,49, son of Kamlun Haokip of Bijang Village, New Keithelmanbi in Kangpokpi district, who has been reportedly hailed as a “fallen hero in defence of our ancestral land and freedom” by KSO Media Cell returned alive on Tuesday, only to reveal that he had lost his way after drinking too much and was simply resting in a hut.

Satkhothang Kipgen who went missing since September 30 was found by a team of New Keithelmanbi Police Station along the National Highway near Longjang Village on Tuesday.

CoTU Media Cell Coordinator Ng Lun Kipgen on Monday claimed that on September 30 one Sathang Kipgen (52), son of Kamlun Kipgen of Bijang village in New Keithelmanbi area in Kangpokpi district was abducted by armed Meitei miscreants.

CoTU had called a shutdown on NH 37 is in connection with an alleged ‘abduction of a Kuki by armed Meitei miscreants’ from New Keithelmanbi area on September 30 and it will continue till the individual is released.

However, he was found by the police on Tuesday.

According to police, Satkhothang could not recall how or where he got lost. When he came to his senses on Monday, he found himself on a hillslope of Haibung village far from his settlement area, he narrated.

He said that he later went inside a farm hut and decided to take a good rest. It was after he came down from the hill, the police found him near Longjang village.

According to his self-testimony, he was heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of boarding a vehicle from Bijang Village on September 30.

Satkhothang Kipgen became a ‘fallen hero’ overnight in a poster reportedly made by KSO Media Cell, apparently under the impression that he got killed during the prevailing conflict and it was circulated on social media. The poster with his photo also has a drawing of a man giving a salute.

This episode has undoubtedly raised serious doubts about the previously made claims about the people of the Kuki-Zo community being killed during the prevailing conflict, and the manner of how they were highly publicised before the national media.

Can't agree more with #ElonMusk. Stopping #illegalimmigration is the biggest challenge for India too where the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is an official record of those who are legal Indian citizens.

The register was first prepared after the 1951 Census of India and since then it has not been updated until recently when on November 20, 2019, Home Minister @AmitShah declared that the Register would be extended to the entire country.

However, the process of identifying illegal immigrants and capturing their biometrics in the state of #Manipur in #NorthEastIndia has forced Kuki-Zo Militants and their supporters to engineer #ManipurViolence on May 3, 2023 to protect the interest of the #IllegalImmigrants who has come to India after 1947 without following due process of law to obtain Indian Citizenship.

More than hundreds of people including students have lost lives and more than 50,000 have been displaced and #ManipurViolence still continues which shows how true #ElonMusk is.
