On this day, three years ago, in the early hours of Sunday, 2 July 2023, at around 12:00 AM, the villages of Langza and Chinglangmei, predominantly inhabited by members of the Hmar and Kom tribe and located approximately 70 km southeast of Imphal, came under a brutal attack from the meiteis amid the ongoing ethnic violence.
During the attack, a Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer, Mr. David Thiek, was killed and later beheaded. Images and accounts that circulated at the time showed his severed head being publicly displayed on bamboo fence, while his remains were burned, leaving behind only few bones.
A meitei man identified as Mairembam Ramesh Mangang, who is also said to be associated with the local MLA's office as PA, was seen in widely circulated images holding David Thiek's severed head. To date, despite the existence of publicly circulated photographs, there has been no accountability against him. Such is the state of affairs in meitei Manipur.
Even at this height of bias and mistreatment among the same citizens of a state, some people outside KukiZo community, still believe in coexistence with the same people who treated us like tribal slaves and under the same government that patronized our ethnic cleansing pogrom from the state capital, who turned blind eyes of our suffering denying us any semblance of justice that is our birth right.
After years of Kuki-Zo suffering with little or no accountability, if our last remaining avenue for a peaceful political settlement, entrusted to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups in negotiations with the Central Government fails, even the SoO leadership leadership will not be able to guarantee the continued effectiveness of the SoO mechanism, the very framework that legally restrains the arms of Kuki-Zo groups.
It is important to note that the Kuki-Zo people have not declared any form of war against any community. Their continued pursuit has been for a peaceful and just political resolution that ensures their security, dignity and constitutional rights.

Tangkhuls have a recurring habit of dragging the entire Naga tribes into controversies largely of their own making. Whenever internal divisions and discord emerge within Tangkhul society, they seek to manufacture conflicts with neighboring Kuki communities as a convenient distraction, 1993 NSCN-IM's pogrom against the Kuki people was one example.
It is no secret that Tangkhul supremo Thuingaleng Muivah is in declining health and no longer able to exercise the same degree of control over his subordinates, creating a leadership vacuum within the NSCN-IM. This vacuum has intensified internal power struggles and exposed longstanding contradictions within their organisation.
Former Nagaland Chief Minister J.C. Jamir was right when he argued that Muivah had effectively hijacked the Naga national movement and sold an illusion of Naga sovereignty while primarily advancing Tangkhul interests. The consequences of that legacy are becoming increasingly evident today. One must ask how a leadership that has publicly emphasized blood ties with the Meiteis can credibly claim to represent the interests of all Nagas across Northeast India.
Historically, the Tangkhuls were not even among the constituent groups represented in the Naga People's Convention (NPC), which negotiated the 16-Point Agreement that ultimately paved the way for the formation of Nagaland. By contrast, Kuki representatives were associated with the NPC process through the Zeliang-Kuki representation, highlighting a frequently overlooked aspect of that history.
Despite repeated provocations, the Kuki side has shown considerable restraint. Having experienced and observed Tangkhul political maneuvering for decades. Kukis are neither unfamiliar with nor easily deceived or intimidated by what they perceive as recurring attempts to manufacture tensions for strategic gain.

Manipur: Let me tell you @Spearcorps, your double standards are glaring. You never show concern for the safety of Kuki peaceful protesters who aren’t even blocking ur way yet display immense restraint when Meitei, Tangkhul & Liangmai women obstruct your movement @PIBHomeAffairs
Manipur: Is this even real @manipur_police? “Kutcha houses”? 😳 Like, they were allowed to be burned by terrorists NSCN-IM & ZUF-K because they weren’t pucca buildings? And always a threat to Kuki handles? What’s really wrong with this Meitei police? SA is a necessity @HMOIndia
Yesterday, peaceful Kuki civilians from Ukhrul district came out to protest democratically against the continuous pressure, intimidation, and forced attempts to push roads and highways through Kuki ancestral villages by sections of the Meitei community and Tangkhul community. Instead of listening to the genuine concerns of innocent civilians, violence and brutality were allegedly unleashed against unarmed Kuki protesters.
The KukiCommunity is outraged by serious allegations that armed elements linked to Arambai Tenggol, Myanmar-based Meitei militants, NSCN Eastern Flank, and NSCN-IM were seen operating in uniforms similar to Manipur Police personnel while firing toward peaceful Kuki civilian protesters and injuring innocent people. Even more disturbing are allegations that Ukhrul Police personnel were involved or remained silent during such inhuman acts against unarmed civilians.
How can armed militant groups openly move wearing police-like uniforms inside Manipur? How can civilians trust law enforcement when militants and armed groups allegedly operate side by side under the shadow of authority? This incident reminds the Kuki people of the horrifying violence of 3rd May 2023, when armed Meitei militant groups allegedly operated openly under political protection while innocent Kuki civilians, churches, homes, and villages were attacked and destroyed. History is repeating itself again before the eyes of the nation.
The entire country and the international community must know the painful reality faced by the Kuki people. For months, Kuki civilians have repeatedly alleged that Meitei groups and certain Naga groups have blocked the movement of food supplies, rice, medicine, and essential commodities through Imphal, Senapati, and Dimapur routes. Yet despite repeated cries for help, many authorities have remained silent while innocent civilians suffer hunger, fear, and uncertainty.
The KukiCommunity is also deeply angered over allegations that NSCN-IM used ZUF Kamson elements in attacks targeting Kuki pastors and civilians. Till today, innocent Kuki civilians reportedly detained under the influence of NSCN-IM-linked groups remain missing, threatened, beaten, and their families still do not know whether they are alive. Mothers are crying, fathers are helpless, children are living in fear, and the silence of authorities is becoming unbearable.
Enough is enough. The KukiCommunity will not remain silent while innocent civilians are hunted, ancestral villages threatened, and democratic voices crushed through fear and violence. The Government of India, Army officials, Central Forces, judiciary, and international human rights bodies must immediately intervene before the situation completely spirals out of control. Justice delayed is justice denied.

I really don’t understand why the entire Tangkhul CSO, the secessionist NSCN-IM, and several of their mouthpieces went berserk after Tony Singsit’s interview went viral for allegedly exposing their wrongdoings on various social media platforms.
Salute to Tony Singsit — the real Tahchapa who exposed the "pastor killers community".
This is my humble appeal to the Tangkhul CSOs, NSCN-IM, and their mouthpieces. Please answer the following questions:
1. The people of Litan Sareikhong and Sikibung were supposed to resolve the drunken brawl incident, and both villages were willing to settle their issues according to tribal customary law. Why did the Tangkhul Naga Long, under the leadership of Mr. Sword Vashum, interfere and escalate the matter? Please explain.
2. Why did NSCN-IM allegedly kill members of another NSCN-IM faction, known as NSCN-IM Eastern Flank, at Hongbei village junction? What happened to the investigation report that Thuingaleng Muivah and VS Atem promised to the people? Please answer.
3. Why did NSCN-IM allegedly ambush and kill Tangkhul civilians at TM Kasom and blame the Kuki-Zo community? Is this how they took revenge for the burning of the WTR Office at Ukhrul? Please answer.
4. When you can’t produce the so-called investigation report, you know the Tangkhul community in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts will turn against you. You let your proxies, ZUF Kamson, and your alleged partner, Meitei militants, ambush and murder Kuki-Zo church pastors on their way home.

The Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) vehemently condemns the desperate attempt by the United Naga Council and Senapati District Students’ Association to whitewash the brutal killing of three innocent pastors through misleading press statements and manufactured justifications.
The absurd narrative of keeping Kuki-Zo civilians as hostages to somehow rationalize or dilute the gravity of the crime is not only irrational but morally bankrupt. Innocent civilians cannot be used as bargaining chips to shield perpetrators or manipulate public perception.
The cold-blooded murder of church leaders and the continued illegal detention of civilians have shaken the conscience of the people.Any organization attempting to normalize or defend such acts stands exposed before the public.
KSO-SH demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and calls upon the authorities to act decisively against every individual and group involved in these inhumane acts.

Urgent Appeal for Immediate Rescue of 16-Year-Old Student Hengunsei Khongsai and 13 Other Hostages in Manipur
To,
The Hon’ble Union Home Minister
Shri Amit Shah ji
Ministry of Home Affairs
Government of India
Respected Sir,
I write to you with profound concern to seek your immediate intervention regarding the alleged abduction of a minor student and 13 other individuals in Manipur.
Mr. Hengunsei Khongsai, aged 16, is a student of Class XI (Arts Stream) at Young Pillar College, Churachandpur. He suffers from muscular dystrophy, a condition that has rendered him 38% disabled. Orphaned at a young age, he has been under the care of his uncle. On May 13, 2026, after a short holiday following his examinations, he was allegedly abducted while engaged in daily wage work by members of the Tangkhul Terrorists NSCN-IM, along with the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), and the United Naga Council (UNC).
Mr. Khongsai is reported to be among 14 hostages whose current whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
In light of the gravity of the situation, I earnestly appeal to the Government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the concerned security agencies to undertake immediate and decisive action to secure the safe and unconditional release of all hostages. The abduction of a disabled minor and other civilians constitutes a grave violation of human rights and public order. Failure to act promptly risks further emboldening such elements.
I trust that your office will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to protect innocent lives and uphold the rule of law.
Yours faithfully,
The Proud Indian

14 Kuki civilians from Taphou and Hengbung are still reportedly being held hostage amid the ongoing Senapati crisis. Their families continue to wait in fear and uncertainty as disturbing reports emerge from the ground. #Manipur
14 LIVES, STILL NO ANSWERS!
14 Kuki civilians are still reportedly missing amid the hostage standoff involving NSCN-IM and SDSA in Senapati. As each day passes, the silence grows heavier for the families waiting desperately for answers.
What is even more painful is the lack of visible progress from those in power. Why has there still been no clear action, no accountability, and no answers for the families? The government and authorities must do more than remain silent. Every possible effort should already be underway to locate the missing civilians and bring them home safely.
The families deserve answers. The missing deserve to be found. And those responsible for protecting human lives must act before it is too late.
