Kamjong District, Manipur | June 11, 2026:
Kultuh, a Kuki village located in Kamjong District of Manipur, reportedly came under a pre-dawn attack on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two prominent community leaders and the destruction of several houses.
According to local sources, the attack occurred shortly after the reported release of 14 Kuki hostages by the United Naga Council (UNC). Residents alleged that armed cadres associated with the NSCN-IM's (EF) launched the assault on the village during the early hours of the morning.
The victims were identified as the village's Head Deacon and Youth Chairman. Several houses were also reportedly set ablaze during the attack, forcing villagers to flee for safety.
Community members have condemned the violence and expressed concern over the recurring cycle of armed confrontations in the region. They questioned why church leaders and community representatives often become targets during such incidents and called for an impartial investigation into the attack.
The incident has further heightened tensions in an area already affected by ethnic and political conflicts. Local leaders and civil society groups have urged authorities to take immediate measures to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.
Various community organizations have reiterated that violence against civilians, regardless of identity or affiliation, must be condemned unequivocally. They called on all stakeholders to pursue dialogue and peaceful solutions to prevent further loss of life and destruction of property.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and assess the extent of the damage.

#Manipur: Justice for Kultuh Village
The burning of Kultuh, a Kuki village, and the brutal killing of the Head Deacon and the Village Youth Chairman in a pre-dawn attack allegedly carried out by NSCN-IM/Tangkhul terrorists is a heinous act that deserves the strongest condemnation. This was not merely an attack on a village; it was a deliberate act of terror against innocent civilians and respected community leaders.
The Head Deacon and the Village Youth Chairman dedicated their lives to serving their people. Their cold-blooded murder, along with the destruction of homes and property, has left the entire community in grief and shock. The people of Kultuh were targeted while they were at their most vulnerable, making this attack all the more cruel and inhumane.
We strongly condemn the actions of the NSCN-IM/Tangkhul terrorists responsible for this barbaric assault. Such acts of violence can never be justified under any circumstance. The burning of a Kuki village and the killing of innocent community leaders are grave crimes that demand immediate attention and action from the authorities.
We call upon the Government of India, security agencies, and all concerned authorities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure that every individual involved in this attack is brought to justice. Silence and inaction will only encourage further violence against innocent civilians.
Today, we stand in solidarity with the people of Kultuh and the families of the slain leaders. Their pain is our pain, and their call for justice is our call. The sacrifices of these innocent victims must never be forgotten.
Justice for Kultuh Village. Justice for the Head Deacon and Village Youth Chairman. Hold the NSCN-IM/Tangkhul terrorists accountable. No peace without justice.

The targeted killing of Letminlun Haokip (Head Deacon) and Lunminthang Haokip (Youth Chairman), alongside the burning of Kultuh's village church and seven homes, is a horrific atrocity. Reports pointing to the involvement of the NSCN (Eastern Flank) and the Shanni National Army (SNA) only highlight the cowardice of this attack, which has left the entire community deeply traumatized.
โThere is absolutely no justification for murdering innocent civilians or destroying homes and sacred spaces. We stand firmly with the people of Kultuh in demanding immediate justice, full accountability, and an end to this violence. Those responsible must be hunted down and prosecuted to the absolute limit of the law.

This man is a former IPS officer and former DGP of Manipur, yet he is referring to Kukis as โnomads,โ despite the fact that Manipurโs previous DGP, P. Doungel, was himself a Kuki IPS officer who served with distinction before taking voluntary retirement in 2023.
When those who have held the highest offices indulge in such rhetoric, it only deepens divisions and fuels hatred from the top down.
This hostility is not going to solve anything in Manipur. Every community has contributed to the nation in its own way. The constant obsession with proving one tribe is superior to another has consumed the state, and the reality is that no community will emerge victorious from this race. The only thing increasing every day is the suffering of ordinary people and the body bags.

Kultuh #Kuki village, attacked & set ablaze by NSCN-IM. Relentless ambushed & targeting of villages, raise serious questions about who truly ignited the violence of May 3, 2023 & prolonged years of bloodshed & insecurity in Manipur. The pattern is becoming impossible to ignore.
At around 5:00 AM this morning, Tangkhul NSCN IM attacked and burnt Kultuh, a Kuki village in Kamjong district.
They also killed two men: the Head Deacon & Youth Chairman of the village.
After releasing the 14 Kuki Hostages by United Naga Council (UNC), #Kultuh_Kuki_Village in Kamjong District, Manipur came under heavy attack from NSCN-IM's Eastern Front, this morning claiming the lives of the Head Deacon and its Youth Chairman.
Why is this cycle of violence and continuous killing happening sporadically? Why are Kacha Nagas singling out church leaders whenever such attacks occur? What version of Christianity did the Tangkhuls claim to represent if church leaders are repeatedly being targeted?
Violence in all its forms must be condemned by everyone, not selectively or according to one's convenience, interests or affiliations.
