During my Brit Lit class, my teacher used the free inquiry model. We were to create a media project using books we read. We were given the topic but got to choose the books and things to discuss/research. We chose how to present it (powerpoint, art, movie). #auctee3100inquiry

@joCTEE3100 I think teachers should try to highlight each student's culture in the classroom one way or the other-whether it be through books, presentations, or movies. A teacher can make sure the students feel included by using language relevant to all, not just certain students.

@soneillctee One of the ways to incorporate my students' cultures in through my classroom library. I want to have books that represent all backgrounds, not just mine. I would also like to give my students the opportunity to present to the class their family history and background.

@amt0073 I think one of the first ways to take action is by recognizing your own privileges and biases. Once you do that, then you will be able to connect with your students and validate/make them feel that their own personal experiences are being heard.

@KellieVosteen As a teacher, I will strive to create an open environment for not only my students but also their parents. Having open continuous communication with parents will go a long way. Once you are able to communicate with parents, you may gain better insight into child's home life.

@joCTEE3100 As teachers, we may be one of the most, if not the most, influential person in a student's life. We spent the majority of the school day with them which gives us the opportunity to change their outlook on things or create a positive environment for the child.

As a teacher, why is it important for you to give your students the space to freely speak their mind without being judged?

@EmmaRuthBoles1 It is common to have expectations for students, but you should never lower expectations in order to fit the circumstance. Though each student has different learning styles, we want all to succeed. Lowering expectations will decrease the chances of learning to the fullest.

@ConnorC69809126 When thinking of intersectionality, you can't only talk about who is represented. You have to think about those who are in the minority and why they don't have equal power. If you can understand the reasoning, then you can then think about creating a more inclusive environment.
