We wanted to "seed, test and scale" innovations that improve learning outcomes @DSTISierraLeone. As we now expand from 25k to 134k learners, 170 to 325 schools, and $1.5m to $18m in funding, we are working with educators who care about #TransformingEducation in #SierraLeone. 2/2

@RobGruijters1 @CERJournal@REAL_Centre@PaulineMRose V interesting! The diminishing learning gap resonates with some of the work in Lagos with @RachelOuthred. Agree with @susannahhares - 0.25sd is good. Curious - what are your recommendations for what governments should do about these schools?
@susannahhares @AlexHughesSmith @biniegu@leecrawfurd@CGDev@GSF_talks More on the contribution that innovations from chains can make to public schools systems and the support required by low-fee private schools, as well as those regulating the sector next week! Happy weekend.
@susannahhares @AlexHughesSmith @biniegu@leecrawfurd@CGDev@GSF_talks It’s a great graph! It doesn’t say much about chain growth because GSF members include standalone schools and intermediary orgs serving low-fee private schools - we are not a club for school chains.
Congratulations to @AashtiZaidiHai & the team at @GSF_talks as they spin out of Ark and become an independent charity. Aashti has built a strong and important organisation, much valued by its 60+ members. I look forward to seeing where she takes it next

#RaiseYourHand for Education. Modupe Adefeso-Olateju and I wrote about how we hope that ODA and governments in the next decade will embrace the innovation and partnership spirit that we have seen in the past couple of years.
Whilst the amount of funding pledged is important, so too will be ensuring that funds are spent effectively, and that spending results in improvements to learning outcomes.

Ouch.
Development economics, ostensibly dedicated to improving the well-being of people in developing countries, is almost devoid of people based in those countries.
