I have been needing to rant about this season for a while now, so just a heads up I’m sorry if this rant comes across your timeline 🫡🫡🫡

First off, yes this Braves team has greatly underperformed this season. But I can’t sit here and act like shit didn’t just hit the floor from the start. And a lot of these issues stem from the Braves lack of offseason quality additions.

One week into the season they are without Ronald Acuña Jr., Joe Jiménez, Sean Murphy, Spencer Strider, Jurickson Profar, Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Reynaldo López…

Oh and Hector Neris, the guy who not only wasn’t signed until March 3, but had also only pitched three innings in Spring Training? Yeah, he made the opening day roster and blew TWO games within that first week before getting DFA’d. Somehow, José Suarez also made the opening day roster because the Braves failed to replace Jiménez and Minter… but that’s beside the point.

Then on top of those two “relievers” on the opening day roster, Chadwick Tromp, Orlando Arcia, Jarred Kelenic and Bryan De La Cruz were also all on the roster as well… and Arcia, Kelenic and BDLC quickly proved to the Braves that they can’t help at the MLB-level. But yet, due to injuries/suspension, Kelenic and BDLC were playing every day.

Murphy ended up making his debut in the 10th game of the season and the Braves quickly went on a 12-5 run over those next 17 games… however they were 1-8 through the first nine games of the season. Then Strider got hurt again and missed another five weeks… one week after Strider returned, Ronald Acuña Jr. made his debut… a few days later AJ Smith-Shawver went down with his injury.

At this point the Braves were 25-29 and were currently without Reynaldo López, AJ Smith-Shawver, Joe Jiménez and Jurickson Profar… one week later Daysbel Hernández gets hurt and missed a month.

So they were without two of their best bullpen arms, two opening day starting pitchers and their best offseason acquisition. At this point the Braves were 27-33… and the very NEXT day after Daysbel’s injury, the Braves blew a 10-4 ninth-inning lead after giving up SEVEN runs that inning to the Diamondbacks, dropping them to 27-34 on the season and 11.0 games out of first place.

So by this point, the season was officially over… it only took the Braves 61 games to dig themselves into a season-ending hole that they would never be able to crawl themselves out of. That’s truly impressive. And since this point, the Braves have lost Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach, Grant Holmes, Austin Riley, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Marcell Ozuna (who played through his hip injury) to injuries.

With all that being said, this unbelievably god awful start (which leads us to where we are today) can be attributed to the Braves failure to address the clear and obvious holes in this roster that were evident after losing Fried, Morton, Minter and Jiménez… in addition to Profar’s suspension and the never ending run of injuries to key players.

The Braves have ~$50 million coming off the books this offseason and they damn well better use every cent to make sure every single hole is addressed and not with a bunch of scrubs who are signed last minute to “help patch” this roster together.
