After many years of writing & editing, I can finally offer my Anglican introduction to Scripture, the sacraments, and Christian living. It's free for download to any churches that wish to have a course for study groups.

@SnowMartyn@ThinkAnglicans@simonsarmiento@Psephizo@MadsDavies Thanks, I look forward to it. The only pushback at the moment is to wonder what the earliest Christians or the Churches today in countries where they're a beleaguered minority might say about the local and the national always going together.
In this week's Well-Tempered, I reflect on a thoughtful essay by @SnowMartyn and Florence Gildea on Christian political engagement. I agree with much of it. But I wonder whether it goes far enough.

@MadsDavies@SnowMartyn@ThinkAnglicans@simonsarmiento@Psephizo What definitely doesn't work are churches with no discernible community life, no real teaching or visible signs of enacting love but lots of pontification about cultural, social, and political issues.
@MadsDavies@SnowMartyn@ThinkAnglicans@simonsarmiento@Psephizo I think at the local level, if the congregational life is active and uplifting enough, word gets out remarkably quickly. But it does need to be underpinned by clear connections with the underlying faith.
@Psephizo@SnowMartyn@ThinkAnglicans@simonsarmiento@MadsDavies I think it's more than that. Interesting how Pope Leo's encyclical is getting the kind of engagement our Bishops yearn for and is also, from a secular perspective, left-wing in its teaching. I've got my theories about the difference. What do you think it might be?
Samuel Johnson was a man of faith and doubt, but he offers a pattern for Christian life. Here's the second part of a two part essay. #CovenantTLC

In this week's Well-Tempered on reflect on why the period from Rogation Sunday to Trinity Sunday is among my favourites in the liturgical year.

What does the Church actually ask of us? Reflecting on Bonhoeffer's costly grace โ and what it means for all of us, not just some of us. This week's Well-Tempered. Link in comments.
