@JohnF_Sullivan Sans source, I’ve heard that PLA is also afraid of casualties - demographic concerns, public opinion, etc. Is that still the assumption?
Great conversation with Dr. Colin Kahl (@ColinKahl) hosted @MIT_SSP covering numerous salient topics and critical questions facing the US and int'l security - strongly recommend watching.
@DefenseCharts If this is in fact a real slide, which I believe it to be, I’m certain it was printed out countless times and wasted a significant amount of toner in doing so. 😖
Another banger of a podcast from @jwcglaser. This time with @RenanahJoyce and @BrianDBlank on the competitive dynamics of overseas military basing. Kudos to them on a great article!
Latest w @RenanahJoyce & @BrianDBlank on how competition for overseas military bases increases the costs of securing access. They discuss the strategy of forward basing, recent expansion in Africa, compensating hosts, great power competition, & more! https://t.co/04Rv1W9XVS
@ProfPaulPoast Would pair pt 2 with interesting @ProfTalmadge@jststs article re tech and escalation. Her take, it requires purposive decision to escalate, and tech is, at times, an intervening var. In this case, tgt’d strike deliberate decision to climb escal ladder

Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, and Alsu Kurmasheva are on their way to the United States to reunite with their families. I’m grateful for all of those who worked to secure their freedom and for our allies and partners who made this deal possible.
Nic van de Walle passed away yesterday. We have lost a comparativist and Africanist. His book with Mike Bratton helped many of us connect the early debates about democratization to Africa. He was a strong advocate for the study of Africa in the US. Here are some of his works.👇
