The ZuAfrique experience made me reflect on the common assumption in some tech circles that every human limitation is a problem to be engineered away: sleep, emotions, uncertainty, vulnerability, sex, dependence on others, even the need for meaning.
--> The risk is that EFFICIENCY becomes the highest value, while the human experience becomes secondary. Some are not problems to solve at all. We are not inefficient machines. Our emotions, relationships, contradictions, and intuition are not bugs inside an optimized system. Optimization without emotional maturity creates blind spots. Intelligence is not the same as wisdom. Technology should augment humans, NOT become the measure of human worth.
A future designed by people disconnected from their own humanity may produce technologies or cultures that are technically impressive but socially harmful.
We don't lose humanity by failing to optimize it. We lose it by optimizing the wrong things.
Reflecting on the Human Layer @lawalkay
There’s truth in this: humans don’t create well in chronic threat states. When people feel unsafe, the brain shifts into survival mode which means less prefrontal clarity, less cognitive flexibility, more defensive thinking.
But psychologically, “SAFETY” and “PRESSURE” are not opposites.
The research so far is closer to this:
--> People perform best in high challenge + high psychological safety environments.
a. When pressure is experienced as THREAT, it narrows thinking and reduces creativity.
b. When pressure is experienced as MEANINGFUL challenge inside safety, it actually increases focus, coherence, and execution.
So the real question is...What kind of pressure?
The difference is whether that pressure is:
FEAR-BASED and destabilizing
or
PURPOSED-BASED and contained by trust, autonomy, and shared safety.
Psychologically, the most productive environments are not pressure-free rooms. They are rooms where:
People feel safe enough to disagree
BUT challenged enough to act
AND accountable enough to not drift into abstraction
The future is not built in comfort alone, nor in pressure alone but in environments where pressure is metabolized through trust, clarity, and psychological safety.
WHICH ENVIRONMENTS ARE YOU BUILDING?
one where your outside the box thinking is appreciated or demonized? Where your voice is heard or silenced? Where your contribution is taken but not appreciated or where you are valued?
ZuAfrique is fertile soil. A container where the default way of thinking is challenged.
The DeSci Bridge Bootcamp is officially happening.
3 days of structured learning, real project exposure and clear pathways into the DeSci ecosystem.
Whether you are a student, researcher, builder, creator or just curious about decentralized science, this was built for you.

“It is in playing and ONLY in PLAYING that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole PERSONALITY.” ~ DW
Pretty deep
→ A “safe container” enables exploration and creativity.
As we’re coming to the end of @ZuAfrique and I fill out our impact assessment, I’m reviewing how this time was actually spent…
I was taught that fast-paced, highly competitive environments are the most productive. It never felt natural but a lot of smart, successful people operate this way, so “it must be true.”
Yet looking at the last 3 weeks the clarity, the insights, the volume of meaningful output while feeling relaxed, valued, and playful… it’s striking.
Maybe we’ve been optimizing for the wrong conditions.
Maybe the environments that unlock the highest intelligence aren’t built on pressure but on safety, trust, and play.
Just a thought 💭
Thank you again @ayahq_
I spent 3 Days with a Hacker and he got me hooked on Code Caude.
Now, I am paying forward. I truly believe people without tech skills MUST dive deep into this opportunity.
I am here to help and the best help happens IRL - human to human -

day 2 took everyone to the beach.
the ocean doesn't negotiate with your ego.
neither does the yoga mat.
and neither did the conversations over breakfast that only happen when nobody is performing.
@zuAfrique 2.0 is asking the uncomfortable questions early. on purpose.
Day 2 at ZuAfrique 2.0 🔥
We slowed down.
We learned.
We felt every moment.
From quiet sessions to exploring Claude AI,
it all came together in a way you can’t really rush.
Day 3 is on 😎
#AllowYourselfToFeel#ZuAfrique
72 hours in, and @zuAfrique is already doing what the best spaces do, reminding builders that they’re human first.
30+ builders on the ground.
Different backgrounds, different disciplines but one shared need: to be seen and understood by people who get it.
We’re already seeing:
• Faster trust-building
• More genuine interactions
• A shift toward presence over performance
This is the foundation everything else builds on.
We’ll be sharing more as this unfolds, stay close.
This crazy chinese dude is organizing a 1 month event in China to connect great talent from the West to Chinese technologies and builders.
Not gonna lie I didnt love the food but I 100% recommend going to Shangai.
PS: he is one of the first believers in Argentina

The Human Layer:
ZuAfrique is the only Pop-up city, I’ve attended so far where your Tech Stack is not as important as your Human Stack.
We spoke today with @eannan_24 and @lawalkay about the human layer - everything about you that isn’t “technical (a skill), transactional, or performative.
It’s who you are when you remove the PITCH.

MANIFESTO
Thank you all for joining us for first edition of Zuafrique. Just a bit of ground rules.
1. At @zuAfrique you are not allowed to SELL or TALK about what you are building, we want to connect with you as amazing humans that you are.
2. No one is interested in how much you’ve raised or the coins you have in your portfolios. So please don’t shill us. We want to get to know you as HUMAN.
3. Let’s be HONEST and speak with each other from a place of love.
4. Don’t come here with EXTRACTIVE mindset, the community will know and you won’t be part of the future communities.
5. Come with hope and OPEN minds.
6. Approach every conversations with how you can be of HELP and VALUE to others.
Now let the MAGIC begins.

As mentioned in the “The Network State: How To Start a New Country”
from @balajis
“…a startup society is the reverse. It’s about community culture first, and technological innovation second. And while innovating on technology means forecasting the FUTURE, innovating on culture means probing the PAST.”
1. Select your tribe
2. Create your network
3. Stay connected
4. Build IRL nodes
5. Help one another to be the best version of yourself
6. Repeat & Scale
Asante 🙏
It happened! First time landing in the African continent. It’s a big deal to me - I always wanted to visit but I didn’t want to be just a tourist. I wanted a purpose, an invitation. And it arrived.
Super excited for this adventure with the @zuAfrique community.
Looking forward to learn the cultural ins and outs and better comprehend how innovative tech can support this ecosystem. What are the human issues that tech can solve? What’s the roadblock to communicate authentically and how can we show up for one another?
Tech is only one layer it works well when the humans behind it are connected to themselves and nature.
Feeling recharged 🫶🐅
Let me know if there is anything interesting you would like to know or see! Btw, in Kenya you can book an Uber safari so cool!
I left Mexico last month to travel back to Europe. Next will be @zuAfrique in Kenya and @MuShanghai two very different pop-up cities that I am super excited to join.
I stopped in Italy to see friends and family and came by @LiminalVillage for the Equinox to celebrate the next step of the Brick Factory project and take part of several interesting leadership workshops.
We started over a year ago to present this initiative— a Regenerative community design with the intent to bring together the old and the new - by fixing up an abandoned historic brick factory and merge in its design technology/innovation with nature. Creating an alternative environment where interdisciplinary co-building can happen.
