My commentary on the closure of @VectorBase. Join me in rallying for its sustainable continuation. Comment, repost, and circulate. Let’s ensure this vital resource remains accessible for our global #VectorBiology research community.
Only 5 more days! Every morning I am reminded that @VectorBase is going away! @NIAIDFunding what were you thinking?!? This resource is critical to so many research labs. MUVE_ESA @ACME_ASTMH
Loss of access to @vectorbase and @veupathdb throws a wrench into the gears of malaria research and progress toward malaria elimination.
Devastating for vector and parasite biology work moving forward, and invaluable to my work on diverse and understudied malaria vector species.
Science can give you many gifts. One of those is the opportunity to get together with awesome people, at a beautiful place, and exchange results, experiences, and thoughts for the future. You leave feeling recharged with new ideas, new collaborations, and new friends! #VKM2024
3️⃣ Gut Microbiota & Fecundity: Microbiota establishment boosts reproductive output. Mated and JH-treated females lay more eggs, highlighting the microbiota's role in fecundity and linking immune gene expression in the gut tissue to hormonal cues. #InsectImmunity#Holobiome
4️⃣ Trade-offs & Vector Control: Understanding the interplay between JH, gut microbiota, and immunity offers new insights into mosquito physiology and potential vector control strategies.
2️⃣ Immune Modulation: Mating and JH suppress antimicrobial peptide (AMP) production in the midgut tissue, leading to a thriving gut microbiota. This microbiota expansion is crucial for increased egg production and longer lifespans. #Microbiome#MosquitoBiology
🦟📢 It is finally out in @CommsBio! This has been one of my favorite papers to work on. It was incredibly exciting to find new links between midgut growth, hormonal regulation, gut microbiota, and mosquito reproduction! https://t.co/2FxJE4fI5b Here's a summary of what we saw:
1️⃣ Mating & Midgut Growth: Mated female mosquitoes show a significant increase in midgut size compared to virgins, with JH alone replicating this effect. This growth is linked to increased mitotic cell activity. #GutSize#MosquitoFeeding
Only 17 days left to back up the @TeamFoldscope Microrealms Microscope projector project!! We are only at 31% of the funding goal. If we don’t hit the mark, the entire effort is washed out. If you ever used #Foldscope, please consider supporting and RT 🙏🏾

Tech opening in our lab at Princeton! Mosquitoes, behavior, genomics, neuroscience, evolution.
Great for someone with college research experience exploring interests for future directions. For more info: https://t.co/gy1TbNc5eU Please RT.
🔬 Excited to share the final version of my postdoctoral #research at @ThePedraLab, now published with @SpringerNature in @NatureComms!
