We are honored to be one of the very first companies in the United States to have received access to the NovaSeq X+, the newest @illumina sequencer to date that we will be using for all of our viral and #DNA sequencing efforts. #technologyinnovator
The Helix team was thrilled to see Dr. Dan Judge, principal investigator of In Our DNA SC, take to the podium at #ACC23 in New Orleans last week. Dr. Anwar Chahal from WellSpan was also in attendance to join the discussion on the role of screening in genetic cardiomyopathies.
The latest on reinfections from @my_helix:
- ~10% of total infections are reinfections
- ~2% of total reinfections are occurring within 90 days of the previous infection.
In chart, the denominator is total reinfections.
As always, thanks to @McCroneIV @robcrock
4/ There are many caveats and nuances. For full details, please check out our easy-to-read 4-page technical briefing https://t.co/4OoTN1QDik
Thanks: @alexbolze @McCroneIV @Maglaar

Register to hear Helix Staff Scientist, @alexbolze share our groundbreaking research on genetic susceptibilities to #COVID-19 vaccine side effects at the @GeneticsSociety Monthly Journal Club in June: https://t.co/ow91P5eM8x
As always thank you to the team at @my_helix@alexbolze@Maglaar for driving this work. I look forward to a day we can monitor all these viruses as well as, if not better than, we do SARS-CoV-2.
Curious about Delta-Omicron recombinants?
Our study 👏 @shishiluo@my_helix: https://t.co/psFMnqndvI
Co-circultation of both variants
20 samples with co-infections
Evidence of a few recombinations in co-infections
& 2 infections with 100% recombinant
Details in 🧵
The chatter about Omicron subvariants BA.1, BA.1.1, and BA.2 made me curious how well @my_helix's assay covers mutations that distinguish them.
Thank you @Maglaar for making this data so easy to query and @nextstrain's nextclade cli for the annotations.
Is BA.2 going to take over in the US ?
So far, BA.2 is still <0.5% of sequences in @my_helix surveillance. Not growing in last 10 days.
23 Jan (collection date): 2 BA.2 out of 215 seq
24 Jan: 6 / 556
25 Jan: 3 / 344
26 Jan: 0 / 434
27 Jan: 0 / 225

Coming up next week...
Join us on Thurs., Feb. 10 at 12 p.m. EST for our next Genomic & Precision Medicine Forum featuring Liz Cirulli, PhD (@ETCirulli) from @my_helix

Some discussions about BA.2 recently (see 🧵). Do we see BA.2 in @my_helix surveillance?
Dashboard now shows B.1.1.529, BA.1 & BA.2
Out of 3,801 samples collected in 2022 & sequenced: only 3 BA.2.
1 in CA, 1 in FL, 1 in LA

Impressive work @alexbolze and team @my_helix. 6 day turn around from sample collection to sequence publication & sharing is impressive. @PPI_Insights
Latest @my_helix sequencing:
Omicron: 97% for samples collected on January 9 (n=170)
Delta: hanging at ~3%
Similar to results from @NathanGrubaugh & @pavitrarc in US.

Again takes many teams to have 6 days between sample collection -> diagnostic test -> sequencing -> analysis to results on dashboard
Thanks @sustain_SCM ops team, @Maglaar@shishiluo bioinfo team

So excited to have our study out on @medrxivpreprint showing that people with HLA-A*03:01 are twice as likely to get fevers and chills after Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination compared to those without this HLA type @alexbolze@my_helix @HealthyNV @grzymski@genesareclever
New rare variant data published by Helix researchers in @GIMJournal shows the inclusion of 4 novel conditions, all actionable with >30% penetrance, may broaden the impact of population genetic screening, identifying 27% more at-risk participants: https://t.co/X4WgJPmf64
