@Rianstone@seriouslysushi@ClickingSeason@AliceFromQueens I was in Melbourne (Aus) during our lockdowns. At one point I hadn't seen anyone I knew in person (apart from my wife) for over 6 months because of the 5km travel ban. Messed with my head badly, heaven knows how it affected kids. It was an awful time.
@AvidCommentator FWIW, I think most Aussies donate to social causes rather than volunteer, but that does have the side effect of 'social good' becoming a nebulous thing that we must trust happens 'elsewhere', rather than locally where we physically see the results and can demand accountability.
@AvidCommentator Reminds me of an old study about volunteering that found people get happiness from volunteering, but also that happy people are the ones who actually volunteer. Have we been getting happier in the last decade? Probably not...
@CitizenAmedia Used to be that dead internet theory made people think they were talking to people, but it was actually bots. With the dawn of AI we're still talking to bots, only suddenly and somehow with a human middleman ๐
@thetigersvessel@parkeralewis honestly feels a bit like a 'how would you feel if you didn't have breakfast this morning?' / 'but I didn't have breakfast this morning' exchange lol
@HariSel57511397 point 2, 'modern audiences buy physical copies of stories they already like' is a good one, makes me think of what Matthew Reilly did very successfully with Hover Car Racer (publish as a fortnightly serial, then sell a hardcover version)
@RecruitBoss@carbo_al I think the idea was supposed to be 'my actions are irredeemable, but I'll sacrifice it all for love' which works with Lucas' idea of the jedi warrior monk thing (fear, love, attachment etc). Anakin can't overcome attachment but Luke eventually does. But yeah, poorly executed.
@TutaPrivacy So, uhh, when you say private messages do you mean messages to and from the AI? Otherwise it doesn't really seem like FB is actually offering an opt out...
