Another aspect of fostering and working toward an authentic civilization of love is dialogue. A dialogue grounded in truth that recognizes and values the shared humanity of every person. Indeed, bearing in mind the innate dignity of every individual allows selfishness and particular interests to be overcome in favor of the common good. This same dignity also provides the context in which we can speak of a healthy pluralism that recognizes the wealth of contributions that come from people of diverse backgrounds and which leads to peaceful coexistence."

Happy Feast of St. Mary Magdalene!

Remember that in the time between when the Risen Christ appeared to her at the Tomb, and when she announced the news of the Resurrection to the disciples, Mary Madgalene was, in a sense, the church on earth. For only to her had the Paschal Mystery--the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ--been fully revealed.

Any discussion of women's roles in the church must begin with this fact: It was to a woman that the Risen Christ first appeared and a woman who was charged by him with announcing the Resurrection to the rest of his disciples. Thus, her justly exalted title: "Apostle to the Apostles."

"Negotiations over health care coverage, workplace safety and related issues are no place for juvenile antics—and that’s exactly why Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. House joined forces recently to pass the #FasterLaborContractsAct.

The legislation, now before the Senate, promises to fix a broken system that allows employers to flout labor law and run roughshod over workers’ rights.

It would require companies to begin negotiations within 10 days of workers’ vote to form a union and require mediation if the two sides prove unable to reach a contract within three months. If mediation also fails to bring consensus, a panel of arbitrators would step in and set the terms of the first contract."

"Nearly 70 percent of Americans no longer see the country promising mobility or financial security to those who work hard and strive to get ahead, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.

But Marcelo Assis, president of @steelworkers Local 12000 and a mechanic at Southern Connecticut Gas, will be the first to say it doesn’t have to be this way. After helping him fulfill the American dream, the union now enables him to hold on to it.

A USW contract provides Marcelo with the good wages he needs to ride out Donald Trump’s inflationary economy, including the runaway costs of groceries, utilities and house insurance. It affords him retirement security even as Republicans threaten to cut lifelines for the elderly.

The contract delivers quality, employer-sponsored health care while more and more Americans today have no choice but to put off doctor’s visits or treatments because of the spiraling costs.

“There’s the stability of knowing you have benefits,” Marcelo said of the contract, which he and his co-workers negotiated. “You don’t have to worry.”
