IDeAL Postdoctoral Fellow Jeremiah Nganda presented his research, "Co-creation for Sustainable Knowledge Translation in Health Systems: A Scoping Review," at the Pwani University International Transdisciplinary Conference and Innovation Expo.
The study examines global evidence on how researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and communities work together to co-create knowledge that can improve health systems. By mapping existing research, it explores how collaborative approaches can make scientific evidence more relevant, accessible, and more likely to inform policy and practice beyond academic settings.
Preliminary findings suggest that as health systems increasingly rely on evidence to address complex health challenges, co-creation plays a critical role in improving the uptake and use of research, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The review provides valuable insights into how stronger partnerships between researchers and decision-makers can help translate evidence into policies and interventions that improve health outcomes.

For decades, the Programme has been at the forefront of malaria research generating evidence, shaping policy, and driving progress in the fight against Malaria.
In line with the theme for this upcoming #WorldMalariaDay, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must,” we pause to reflect on how far we’ve come, the impact of this work, and where we must focus next to move closer to a malaria-free future. #EndMalaria #ZeroMalaria
As captured by leading malaria researcher Prof. Bob Snow:
When they want to tax us they compare us to the UK and Singapore but when it comes to accountability we are compared to Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and Sudan.
We have to put this to an end once and for all.
FREEDOM IS COMING!!
Congratulations to Dr. Esther Awuor Owino on successfully defending her PhD. Her research explores the vulnerabilities influencing childhood vaccination in Kilifi County, Kenya.
Grateful to the supervisory team led by @ChiPrimus, together with Dr. Caroline Jones, Dr. Dorcas Kamuya, and Dr. David Kaawa-Mafigiri, and to the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Vaccines for Vulnerable People in Africa (VAnguard) for their mentorship and support throughout the studentship.
Our researchers, Prof. Isabella Oyier, Head of Bioscience, @KEMRI_Wellcome and Prof. Abdirahman Abdi, Senior Researcher, @KEMRI_Wellcome presenting during the symposium on multi-pathogen genomic surveillance in the ongoing #KASHConference.
🧬 Where are artemisinin resistance signals emerging in Kenya?
📚 New research tracking over 24,000 samples from schoolchildren across Western Kenya reveals rising genetic markers linked to resistance, including the concerning A675V mutation, which has spread rapidly since 2019. The findings show the urgent need to strengthen routine surveillance and confirm treatment efficacy.

I thank President @LulaOficial and the people of Brazil for bringing the world to the Amazon — one of the world’s most vulnerable areas to climate change — for #COP30.
As negotiations get underway, I reiterate my appeal for an outcome that puts people and the planet first.
Children’s futures can’t wait. At #COP30, governments and businesses must:
❌ Cut carbon emissions
💰 Scale up climate finance
🏫 Invest in resilient schools, health care, and safe water
🗣️ Put children and young people at the heart of climate decisions
#ForEveryChild, a safe and healthy planet.
Extreme weather events pushed nearly 96 million people into crisis or emergency levels of hunger last year.
#COP30, in the heart of the Amazon, is a pivotal moment.
We need financing and bold commitments to protect communities from escalating weather-driven hunger.
The UN Climate Conference kicked off in Brazil with an urgent call for more ambitious #ClimateAction.
#COP30 aims to accelerate action under the #ParisAgreement, strengthen international cooperation & speed up action across all sectors of all economies.
