CNBC just noted that half of Under Armour's profit is coming from tariff refunds, and that broadly the refunds are propping up corporate profits.

Weird those refunds aren't going to consumers. Also weird prices aren't coming down. Almost as if tariffs don't drive inflation.

AOC: I actually meet with MAHA activists because a lot of them really don’t believe that their fight is partisan—and in many ways, it’s not. We do have extraordinary corruption in our agricultural system and in our big corporate system as well. This is an area where both parties and our entire political system have been compromised.

You have companies dumping cancerous byproducts, poisoning the communities around them. Then they pay off our political class to ignore it, let it continue, or legally shield them—like with glyphosate—from everyday people trying to hold them accountable.

I see how all of these issues that are expressed on the surface as right-wing are actually rooted in the anxieties that we have as working people not being able to afford health care. So it’s also, “How do I stop being sick? How do I prevent being sick by limiting my exposure to things that I think are toxic?” There are things that are actually toxic and things that aren’t, and people take advantage of that.

Then, when I do get sick and I can’t afford medicine, what are the holistic and low-cost alternatives that I can turn to because I know I can’t afford to see a doctor? That is a place of tremendous vulnerability that people feel, and it’s immensely legitimate.

And then, if you add the racial component too—I’m Puerto Rican. The United States sterilized women for decades.

So that is a perfect storm of a lack of trust in institutions that is oftentimes very valid and very legitimate. And you don’t win that by saying, “Oh, don’t worry,” or by condescending to people. We do need to fix our health care system.
