@PleasantonSean I teach 3rd grade Spanish and the technology seems to be too much of a distraction and temptation for them. At this age, they should be knowledgeable about technology/how to use it but not receive all instruction from it. As with all things, there should be balance. #wuedt6020
@ShineBrightKR I struggle with this as stress sticks to me easily, but I try to do small things. For me, I try to listen to calming audiobooks during my drive to and from work. For them, If I see the students are getting overwhelmed we stop and do a breathing exercise or GoNoodle. #wuedt6020
@sowilmu Find a spot to sit in where you can interact with both/they can slightly interact with eachother. I have an iPad in my zooms so that the virtual learners could see the in-person kids. (This also helped me monitor the classroom without taking my eyes off the screen.) #wuedt6020
@ShineBrightKR I really like this idea! Iโve struggled with having them interact with each other as much but Spanish is a second language so itโs crucial. What are some examples of team building activities that you guys have been able to do? #wuedt6020
While I have been able to build a strong bond with my students in person, I struggle to build relationships with the students I have at home. So, Week 5

@NatalieTucci2 Yes, we have in-person students 5 days a week and remote students that join live streams for my Spanish and math classes. I love the idea of a lunch bunch with them so they feel like theyโre getting my sole attention! Do you have a set day of the week or does it vary? #wuedt6020
@MathWithMsJones@McCoolWILMu Yes! Honesty with the students when trying new is key. Students can smell inadequacy a mile away from someone who pretends to know it all. I like your idea of inviting their feedback and having them teach you a few things! #wuedt6020
@ms_maxwell181@McCoolWILMu I agree as someone who struggles asking for help for fear of judgement. People are always more open to help than we believe. When someone offers it, we should be more open to accepting help. โบ๏ธ #wuedt6020
@SarahQJ My advice to a fellow educator is to pick one or two webtools youโve seen some success with and get very acquainted. Often we start trying new things just because we think theyโre cute/we saw someone else post a screenshot, but we donโt hone in and make one our own.#wuedt6020
@AshleyDills1@McCoolWILMu Ashley, I have had so much trouble with student engagement between my virtual and in person students. Iโve loved Kahoot to help foster those relationships and boost engagement. #wuedt6020
@Ashley_Wilmu I have also found that intervention is very difficult to do virtually or even in person with the safety measures. I havenโt tried Nearpod yet but have heard great things. Notability to view handwritten answers and quick checks has worked out for me as well.
The biggest challenge during remote learning has been obtaining data on the students at home vs the students I have in-person since some do not turn in work. To help overcome this, Iโve started sending parents weekly emails alerting them of missing graded work. #wuedt6020
