The country has been ruled by its only Regime since 1991 , Isaias Afwerki, creating what the UN describes as a pervasive climate of political repression, surveillance, and fear.

I met with Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-TX), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, and Intelligence committees, in an official meeting on June 9, 2026.
We discussed the current status of affairs in the Horn of Africa; updated the congressman #EBRF activities and strategy on how to democratize # Eritrea and the potential positive impact on the region
Eritrea have lots to offer to the world, and has the potential to become a productive and reliable geopolitical partner to US and allies

In Eritrea, elections have never been allowed for more than 35 years.
Eritrea is a hell on earth for citizens denied constitutional rule, no parliament, no freedom of the press, life imprisonment without trial, modern slavery, forced labor and you are talking about elections in the #UN, so #elections are not against your boss or?

Is this appropriate?
Most UN agencies are not allowed to play a full role in Eritrea. The IMF, World Bank and other international organisations are unwelcome. The UN is committed to democracy - which Eritrea has never had.
How can Eritrea be an appropriate leader for others?
It is difficult to understand how a regime that restricts fundamental freedoms at home can be entrusted with a leadership role in institutions that claim to uphold democracy, human rights, and development. The #Eritrean people deserve representation that reflects their aspirations, not the interests of an unaccountable regime!

How can a government that has never held a national election be elected to prestigious @UN positions? #Eritrea|ns have waited more than three decades for the right to choose their own leaders. @HumanRights@UN_HRC#TransnationalRepression
