When I talk to doctors who want to leave clinical medicine, it’s never that they hate taking care of patients. They LOVE, taking care of patients. It’s the uncompensated administrative burden, and the Orwellian oversight that deters them away from clinical practice. That’s what we need to get rid of.

If you went way down your rank list, try not to be too bummed out. I had a friend who matched at his #7 choice - a major bummer on match day. But then he met his spouse in residency, became chief resident and eventually joined a local group that recruited him heavily. You never know what lies on the road ahead. It might be better than what you would have found at your #1.

805 unfilled FM spots, 144 unfilled Peds spots, both higher than last year. Primary care is essential yet people are not applying and one of the big reasons, whether we want to admit it or not, is compensation. Primary care physicians should be compensated more!! !
