Real work with Houston Basketball 👀
No fancy gadgets. Just getting better.
If your training feels basic… maybe it is…
Maybe it SHOULD BE
Houston has become a mainstay at the top of college basketball
& I feel this is a reason why
It’s GREAT to be strong. Go do it!
The biggest competitive advantage at the high school level right now is nutrition.
Big time programs are investing through boosters or grants to feed their athletes throughout the day.
I think people would be shocked how many kids don’t eat breakfast, and not always by choice
“You can always HEAR a good team.
The bad teams… you never hear. They don’t ever talk.
They don’t talk to each other. They don’t talk on defense, they don’t talk in transition.”
- Kelvin Sampson
Marcus Freeman shares why "leading by example" isn't enough.
"We don't love leaders by example. Because leaders by example are guys that do what they're told to do, they do everything they're asked, right?"
"But they don't say things when their teammates aren't reaching the standard. We can't have that."
Real leadership isn't just performing at the standard. It's protecting the standard.
"We need more leaders. Guys that are willing to hold their teammates accountable because it's gonna make your teammate better."
Accountability isn't about being hard on people. It's about caring enough to not let them settle.
"I wanna make everybody in our organization the best they possibly can be. So if I let you cut corners or I don't say something to you when you're falling under the standard, then I'm not helping push you to the best you can be."
Leading by example is the baseline.
Leading with accountability is the standard.

I am watching everything Kingston Fleming does. He dives on the floor, he claps for his teammates, shares the ball, takes good shots, communicates with his coaches. His circle has done a great job with him.
Congratulations Tyce Blodget.
Tyce surpassed 1000 career points for his career on January 6th against Paetow High School. This is an incredible accomplishment. If you see Tyce, please congratulate him.
Playing multiple sports in high school is a good thing. Some of the best pros in the world didn’t specialize in high school.
Being well-rounded is important. Student council, music, arts, working.. Do many things in high school to build a well-rounded foundation for your future.
Strong words from Cam Ward
“I grew up watching my Dad wake up at 4:30 for a job he didnt like, so if I can’t wake up early and work hard at a job I do like, I shouldn’t be playing Football”
Tom Brady talks about his struggles for playing time in college 🏈
This is a great lesson on controlling the controllables. Focusing on maximizing your own efforts so that when opportunity comes you are ready to take it.
He made sure his 2 reps were the best his coaches had ever seen - and the rest us history 🏆
"Greatness is the most lonely thing that you'll ever do. But, it's the most consistent thing that you'll have to commit to.
Because greatness don't stop once you understand it's a lifestyle"
Greatness is not a choice.
Greatness is many choices made over and over.
If an athlete doesn't want to lift on game day let alone the week of a game or competition they either don't have a quality strength coach that programs appropriately OR the athlete isn't interested in being their best.
Strength training isn't about making you sore it's about maintaining strength, improving power, longevity, and keeping you focused.
Benefits of a pre-game lift:
• Endorphin release that improves cognitive focus, mood, and concentration.
• Muscle activation for optimized performance.
• Stimulates the nervous system to perform at a higher potential.
