Scientists have finally discovered the biological "Achilles' heel" of the malaria parasite—a single protein it absolute can’t survive without.
​Published in Nature Communications, this research identifies Aurora-related kinase 1 (ARK1) as the master controller of the parasite's cell division.
​
The Plasmodium parasite replicates in a highly unique way. ARK1 manages the entire process. When researchers disabled this protein, the parasite couldn't organize its genetic material, completely halting its ability to multiply or transmit.
​
Because the parasite's division process (and ARK1) is so distinctly different from human cell division, it provides a incredibly precise target for next-generation antimalarial drugs—treatments designed to stop the disease without affecting the human host.

​This is a massive step forward toward a world where malaria can be defeated.

South Korean researchers have developed a biodegradable patch or gel that can stimulate teeth to naturally regenerate dentin—the hard layer beneath enamel. After the dentist cleans the cavity, the patch is placed directly onto the tooth. Its bioactive molecules, including peptides, activate stem cells inside the pulp, prompting them to rebuild the lost dentin. This method could treat early decay without drilling, reduce the need for fillings, lower inflammation risk, and preserve more natural tooth structure. The technology is still in preclinical trial
