Heard a classic "only in silicon valley" story yesterday:

1. Dude worked at a startup for 5 years, fully vested his equity.
2. Company goes public...everyone is celebrating. Our protagonist is beaming with pride.
3. Stock soars.
4. Lockup expires, time to sell your stock and claim millionaire status.
5. Except in 3 more weeks, he'll get long term capital gains treatment, not short term capital gains treatment. So he decides to hold.
6. Two weeks after lockup expiration, company has an earning announcement. Stock drops 30%.
7. He decides to wait till the stock goes back up to sell. Obviously.
8. He's still waiting. Stock down 79% from the peak.

What lesson do we, dear reader, learn from this?

BEST WAY to pay less taxes: make less money!

I've looked at 5,000+ startup pitch decks. Of all of them, here is my favorite pitch:

1. Walmart has one death per week in their parking lots.
2. This is a HUGE liability.
3. These deaths happen, in part, because the parking lot lights go out.
4. Startup will use space satellites to monitor all parking lot lights at all Walmarts. If any go out, they'll notify Walmart immediately. SPACE SATTELITES!
5. 10,000 locations x $50/month per location = $500k/month MRR.

What I love:
1. This blew my mind. It still does. I've thought about this startup 1,000 times since hearing it.
2. Using our newest technology to monitor a 100+ year old technology: a Thomas Edision lightbulb.
3. Acute problem I want solved - parking lot deaths.
4. It's enterprise SaaS. Automatically 10x revenue multiple.

Many of these projects are up more than 100% since the beginning of October, outperforming most bluechip projects.
