This will be a long 🧵
I started smoking at the end of high school, at the age of 17. I smoked a pack a day through Uni and my working life. Both parents and 3 siblings smoke. I tried quitting using every NRT available Gum worked best 4 me
@jkelovuori I tried pouches recently too. I now use 2-3 a day during work Velo blackcurrant 8mg is my favourite so far. I got them for $12ish AUD delivered from Europe somewhere.
@Skannahh@RooodCanadian@stats_feed It would be worthwhile asking what the concentration of the "chemicals known to cause cancer" were vs smoking or even safe work standards.
@semtupp I agree with you on the most part, I find disposable vapes very wasteful. In Aus we were working to develop a recycling program for them. With the legal industry being shut down and being readily available through the black market 100% of disposable vape waste ends in landfill.
@Vapingit@DrMakaryFDA@SecKennedy@FDATobacco Great thread. The only other one I see too often is that "it's new so we don't know yet" ignoring vaping has been around 20+ years and that modern computer modelling would prove risk very easily if it existed. We've come a long way in the last 50-60 years.
@RyanPark_Keira Just ran into this while doom scrolling Facebook. Celebrating making a smoker pay $350/week vs $70/week while denying them access to harm reduction a couple of weeks out from Xmas. Trying to solve a problem your federal counterpart created. Well done! @LivePippas
@aaronsmith@mattjcan I'm in Sydney and my wife and I rent so no option to install solar panels or batteries, our usage went up 1.6% year on year, but the total cost has gone up 16%. Any chance you can show your bill, including supply charge?
@stanleywaite1@arbsmichael Dismissing peer-reviewed studies by claiming they’re all tobacco-funded is a rhetorical dodge, not an argument. The Addiction meta-analysis is independent research published in a leading medical journal. https://t.co/MVq7s89pPo
@LoganMick15646@arbsmichael Indirect consequences not unintended but yes otherwise correct. Mark Butler will never admit he's wrong.https://t.co/NA9ucxQVDC
A living thread with peer-reviewed articles challenging the "vaping is a gateway to smoking" -theory.

@thoughtsmoke_ I see no good intentions in what they did. They knew exactly what the outcome would be (we warned them) but did it anyway. Now even their beloved tobacco tax revenue is falling & they are spending my tax dollars on campaigns to stop the problem they created.
@thoughtsmoke_ I'm now working a job I hate just to make ends meet with the ever looming threat that the e-safety commissioner will stomp out opposing voices to the government narrative that vaping is bad.
