A wonderful evening of film in Sherborne this week. A bumper crowd to see Restaging the Past, featuring the 'Mother of All Pageants', Sherborne, 1905 - and many other pageants too.
Huge thanks to all those who supported our fundraising event last night, held in collaboration with @Pageantry_AHRC. Donations amounted to a spectacular £685, which helps to ensure that the Sherborne Museum can continue its important work within the community.
'Pageant fever' gripped 20th-century Britain. Leicester's pageant of 1932 featured 6000 human performers (as well as horses, mules, donkeys, dogs, hawks & a boar) acting scripted episodes from Leicester's past, from 50AD to 1882, over nine days. 2/2 https://t.co/TI5410C2WT
In 1932, Leicester's historical pageant imagined a scene from 1265: citizens are moved by the news of Simon de Montfort's death at the Battle of Evesham to proclaim him a martyr and saint. 1/2

I was very excited to see one of the screenings in London - it's a fantastic film and puts so much of what I love about pageants into words (and images and music). Looking forward to watching it again!!
