As a teacher, you're sometimes privileged to witness life moments. I saw a girl approach a boy to ask if he wanted her number. He paused, then pulled out his phone. Utter joy on the girl's face. I then confiscated the phone as it's against rules to have it out in the corridor.
@MrJoshJohnston Just be careful with multivitamins, in case they contain iron. Men can't easily get rid of iron and an excess can cause health problems. Giving blood is a good idea as a man.
My new routine 2022:
1- Do at least 1 math puzzle every day.
2- Workout 1-2 hours every day.
3- Discover 1 good wine every 3 days,
and...
4- Twice a day, fight STATISTICAL disinformation to save lives from Covidopaths. Joe Rogan et al. are KILLING people with disinformation!!!
@ShakinthatChalk I would moan and groan but ultimately I would do as I was told. Surprised with people saying they would refuse to do it, we are employees and can be directed to do any reasonable task.
@RufusWilliam If it helps, I agree with you and I use prior knowledge of students to inform seating plans. And the children who find it hard to concentrate I put in the corners so there are fewer other children around them.
@rupert_higham@C_Hendrick We are all shaped by our experiences I suppose. I've also been impressed by the doctors I've been treated by, but perhaps that is not the case for you. Likewise, my experience of cross-curricula teaching and trying to teach generic learning skills has not been good.
@rupert_higham@C_Hendrick Wow, you clearly have a low opinion of medicine. My point is the same though, to learn deeply about anything you need to specialise in it be it cardiology or algebraic topology or composing an orchestral symphony.
@rupert_higham@C_Hendrick I don't see it as problematic, I see it as the natural consequence of learning deeply about something. In Rosenshine's example - at KS2/3 you study science, then biology at GCSE/A Level, then medicine at university, then specialise in cardiology .
@rupert_higham@C_Hendrick You can only think critically about things you know about and in my experience critical thinking is not something that can be transferred from one person to another through teaching, in the same way knowledge can.
@rupert_higham@C_Hendrick Okay so cross curricula projects about climate change, poverty, etc. Whilst I don't think there is anything wrong with doing this, I don't think it will help develop critical thinking any more than just teaching the same content without the project would.
