@GiffLasta@elonmusk I think Spacex will be ok as long as Gwynne Shotwell's around - she seems to be as much of the driving force there as Elon is. Who knows after that though, and with his other companies. Maybe Franz will take over Tesla...
@Blaspie@Helion_Energy David Kirtley was on Lex Friedman the other day and he said a power station will be about an acre and can't really be scaled down much from that
@stevenmarkryan@elonmusk Aren't you forgetting about raw materials? Unless you're planning on creating matter directly from energy, you're still working with the same limited supply of raw materials that people have been going to war over for all of history. They'll just get more expensive
@thatsKAIZEN I see where he's coming from, but I think he explained it poorly. He repeatedly said he isn't saying trust the experts. He's saying that people who have a large following need to be responsible with spreading their opinions and stop saying it's joking around so it doesnt matter
@igorsushko For what it's worth, I don't agree with the way it's being handled currently. But for everyone saying it's simple - it's not. Stop being so naive. There is no good way to end this war where everyone walks away happy and feeling safe.
@igorsushko Ok, yes, it is simple. Ukraine wins, now America is at war with Russia. Now we have a nuclear standoff and either armageddon or a second cold war.
@Liv_Boeree I'm in the process of moving house atm. Using the streetcheck website to check what different areas of leeds are like to live in and the crime stats are insane! Not the amount per se, but every crime listed is labelled as 'no suspect found' or 'investigation inconclusive'
@elonmusk Sorry, but this seems a little hypocritical after you spent a month tweeting against the uk government for imprisoning people for saying 'burn down the asylum seeker hotels'. Just to be clear, I'm not saying one response is right and one wrong, just that it's hypocritical
@DahCourse@Liv_Boeree Yes, if and only if! We should find out if that's the case first before throwing blame around. It just comes across as lazy finger-pointing and point scoring otherwise.
@GuignolPlanet@thatsKAIZEN 1 - no aerodynamic forces in space, so the outer cover doesn't have to be strong for a lunar lander.
2 - we didn't loose the tech, we just haven't wanted to spend the amount of money we did back then on a very flimsy shot at success. These days we're far more risk averse
@thatsKAIZEN It's definitely long and drawn out, but the wheel of time series is the best book series I've ever read. Give the TV series a miss though!
Another vote for the expanse on the Sci fi front.
@putxiwhipped4@chamath@NcrCommProperty Not true. Rich people consume far more than working class people. So if the final amount of taxes raised was kept consistent, the rich would pay a larger percentage as it can't be got around through loopholes.
@outcomethinking@groupindividual@conorjrogers Yes, they shouldn't compete with the private sector. They should invest in the things the private sector would never be profitable in. Things like roads, water/sewage, high speed rail, bus networks, all of which have proved time and again to utterly fail under private ownership
