Densification is a green answer to cities, it mitigates urban sprawl, reduces transit energy and buys time for government to extend public infrastructure.

Over densification can however degenerate cities.

Every time you travel long distances to work or home, you get more exposed to pollutants, use more fossil fuels, waste more time and money.

We should stop spreading before infrastructure and commute, we should density urban centers.

In yesterday’s tip, #infrastructure refers to roads, electricity, water, sewage, communication, security etc.

Without public infrastructure, it’ll cost you 30-40% more to develop and use a rural or periurban plot.

For the next few days, I will post some basic tips of #greenbuilding for all prospective Ugandan developers.

1. While choosing a site to buy and develop, mind its connectivity to basic infrastructure. The more peripheral it is, the more energy and cost used to access and use it.
