Happy #FieldworkFriday 🎉🥾NMDC Champion Asa Conover (@planetazor) is using the digestive microbiome of the carnivorous California pitcher plant (Darlingtonia californica) to learn how we can shape microbiome composition and function!
Thank you @maxplanckpress for this opportunity to start my first research group!! I am recruiting at the MSc, PhD, and student assistant levels. More info on how to join us coming very soon ☺️🦠
im really happy this manuscript is finally out! if you’re curious about trichodesmium genomics and oceanic N2 fixation, then this could be for you! https://t.co/om2ajfg9Vf
‼️ I'm starting a lab at the University of South Florida's College of Marine Science @USFCMS in St. Pete next Summer! We will study microbial interactions in a changing ocean with multi 'omics and microscopy. Opportunities for MS and PhD students, DM! 🦠🧪🔬🌊❤️ #sciencedreams
Excited to share two pubs from my PhD this week, one on historical contingency in ecology and the other on historical contingency in evolution, and some thoughts on what these two subfields can learn from each other. 🧵(1/10)
#Internship opportunity (partially funded) for a student interested in studying marine connectivity in Okinawa, Japan. Join our lab and our cross-disciplinary team led by @mitarais at @OISTedu

hi all - i'm proud to announce our new manuscript on Trichodesmium pangenomes and CRISPR immunity is now out on bioRxiv :) https://t.co/ZwAJboo8yR

Our paper on belowground effects on the phyllosphere microbiome is now out in @NewPhyt! We found that water limitation & disrupting mycorrhizal colonization had extremely similar effects on aboveground communities – down to individual indicator species. https://t.co/TIM0zvUS98
Very excited to talk about microbiomes and some of our recent work on dispersal in the phyllosphere at the upcoming Science at Cal event. Register in advance if you'd like to check it out!
Working with @EricWeb65737594 I grew very fond of Trichodesmium, a worldly and attractive cyanobacterium. Last week we published a tale of N cycling among Tricho and associates.

Here are some pix that offer a joyous glimpse into the Tricho world.
New paper out today in @ScienceAdvances! https://t.co/CIoIJYWOrN
We measured state-dependent risk-taking in elephant seals throughout their 7-month migrations and found that skinny seals sacrifice safety for sustenance.
Here is an animation I made to tell the story. #gradschool
