Had the pleasure of seeing some of Tommy’s fantastic low input crops yesterday evening, some of which are fungicide free, some receiving only phosphite and sulphur and some conventional and all looking top shelf. Doing a great job stepping down his inputs.
I will be presenting my last show on Radio 2 next Friday. I had intended fulfilling my contract until the end of March but the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier. Let’s enjoy the week ahead!
Dry cows #balegrazing on arable ground, advantage of running a livestock enterprise on an arable estate, lots of space to winter cows stay clean with minimal soil damage, spreading fertility across a large area #healthycows#soilhealth
Very pleased to have finally launched our new Biodiversity Website, demonstrating and promoting our strategic landscape vision to be delivered primarily with BNG. https://t.co/AVkTTii6Ri
Planning application for the new livestock market in Hailsham is now with Wealden, application number WD/2022/2878/MAO if you wish to comment in support. The old market is very outdated and this is a great opportunity to maintain livestock farming in Sussex for the future
No apologies for keep raising this, but we cannot let soil sampling to 15cm be used as the basis for selling carbon credits.
SFI has SOM sampling to this depth. Fine to measure as a proxy for some things, but not change in total SOC stocks.

Eldest daughter just attended her first YFC meeting and loved it. This was her last spring.. she has so many things she loves and does, but I think farming will always be in her heart #family#farming
Can’t believe how well my fields are walking. Normally disc to about 6” and power harrow before drilling and rolling. Last autumn only disced to 2” max and drilled. I didn’t think the soil would cope but it has! I’ve been causing myself so many problems #regenerativeagriculture
Three years of notill, cover crops and diversity in the rotation have produced this soil structure and w.wheat establishment.
No miracle cure with biostimulants, compost-tea or special tillage equipment.
Simply, just done as little as possible.
