Ocean waters harbor invaluable wildlife, sustain the lives of billions of people, and are home to incredible ecosystems like corals and mangroves. #WorldOceansDay
Happy world wetlands day!
In Maldives, wetlands are often found in enclosed/semi-enclosed brackish water bodies locally known as kulhi, or muddy areas without standing water known as chasbin. The presence of mangrove vegetation on either habitats is referred to as faa. 1/2
Back then she was something to adore
And this is where our story starts
A tale so sad which could touch one's heart
(Part of a poem written by my sister)
Hope you guys like it 😊
the ocean may look mighty and rough at times
or feeble and mute and so lifeless inside
one would never know
which ocean would greet
when they get up, to meet the sea
you will see islanders complaining about
living with this unpredictable uncertainty
but you see, if they
Knew what the ocean holds inside
None would utter a single word
The ocean has caves so silent and dark
Which holds the memories of being apart
She has had a love so vivid yet short
And now she can't hold it in all
The ocean wasn't like this before
Congratulations to Fuvahmulah Atoll for being designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the 32nd MAB ICC. May we continue to preserve genetic diversity in representative ecosystems by protecting native flora & fauna, traditional lifestyle of inhabitants, and our natural resources
Sustainable fishing is possible, but we need reliable data to enforce rules and regulations.
Our guide explains how well-designed electronic monitoring programs can help. https://t.co/ui6bGi71x6
Working for the community within the community have always been hard. I have always done it with lots of love towards my island and with lots of dedication. The recent incident truly proved so much! How difficult it is to voice out for the right when you are GIRL AND A YOUTH! 😓
Majority of the mangroves in Maldives are still not ecologically studied. So its always possible to discover a new species. Need more studies and better policies to protect these mangroves
Sharing the updated seagrass species ID guide for Maldives with eight confirmed species. Please keep uploading your sightings to @ProjectSeagrass#SeagrassSpotter so that seagrass species distribution in the Maldives could be better understood. #protectmaldivesseagrass
On this International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we are reminded of negative impacts of climate change such as extreme weather events that have caused irreversible damage and loss to livelihoods & ecosystems #DRRday (1/2)

"The Maldives has also pledged to protect 1 reef, 1 island and 1 mangrove from each atoll of the #Maldives by 2023. In the past nearly 1.5 years, we have completed this task in 7 of the 20 atolls. The rest of the atolls will follow.”- Minister @DrHussainHassan#UNGA75
