Ex-Contractor thanks to this government. Years of HMRC Brown Envelope hell. Followed Accountants advice with so called QC approval and HMRC compliance.
@RedHawkWinter@Mel_C_73@CagnaMartaDead@JudithFreedman@HMRCgovuk It is definitely retrospective. The law as it stood at a point back in time gave rise to no additional tax due. The law as it stood after the same point in time creates a new tax liability for actions taken in the past before the point in time. Even lay people understand it.
@nomercyHMRC Exactly the same story for me. Thank you for sharing it. For me it sent me over the edge, was drinking, ended up with mental health severe depression under Nightingdale Mental Health hospital. Since then family breakdown, separated, almost killed myself. Now no more. No HMRC no.
@RetroScrewed Most of us are in the same boat. We did not look for any underhand way to save money as some would like to believe. We simply did what accountants and others told us was the safest and in some cases only way to get the job !
@wealthagent Gordon why are you so angry. I find you the most depressing person. Some of us are in very difficult situation and in the absence of concrete resolution, it is hope that we rely on to get to just the next day. Do you enjoy removing hope even if misplaced?
The @Conservatives usually follow all things @Telegraph says. Why isn't @CommonsTreasury investigating this awful policy? People are losing their lives to this.
@a4c111@Stephen41792571 Given the number of years this has dragged on for. The fact that most of us impacted are almost at retirement age and unlikely to have much future earning capacity left. Its clearly a bankruptcy only policy.
@Cryptodragonmi1 @BBCFLauraKT Who cares if the Royal family do or don't generate more income than expenditure. The fact is they have been in existence for many more centuries in that position and the poor people have always been jealous of this. This will remain so past everyone's lifespans, so get over it!
@JoeAlderson1982 @BBCLauraKT It is utilising legal mechanism to avoid paying a higher rate of tax on earnings.
It is avoidance & when applied to government related individuals is above board, I èven heard the term paid all the tax due in the UK.
When, however, non government its not ok.
Jokers !
@Ir35L@greatunwashed22 Echo those word, its ruined our lives. I mean totally. Imagine having a sword over yours and familiew necks for years and years. Its disgusting. I have now gone full circle, denial, fear, drink, mental health, family breakdown... now anger & I'm paying not a penny more ever
