@RepGregMurphy Med school admissions criteria are the issue? You don't think onerous federal regulations, captured regulators, and Joint Commission visits that focus on ensuring that doctors aren't keeping water at their desk have anything to do with it?
You may have heard the shocking headline that 250,000 people die every year in the US due to misdiagnosis in the ER.
You may be even more shocked to know that this statistic is extrapolated from the death of...
just one man.
in a Canadian ER.

I am going to teach dream control seminars..after you get your masters in dream control you will be able to enter a facility where you will be put in an coma induced dream state for whatever time you choose and be able to do whatever you want with no restrictions whatsoever...
@iniya_rajendran I've never quite understood why these patients are sent to the ER, and it's very common. I apologize to them and send them home... to follow up with their PCP.
Yesterday was the first day of truly nice weather in Michigan.
I had FIVE kids come in who'd dumped their bikes and shattered their distal radius/ulna into various states of disrepair.
They all got a lesson on how to properly throw their bikes from their mountain biking ED doc
Asking a patient about foreign body sensation does not have high enough positive or negative predictive value; physical exam diagnoses 78% of wound foreign bodies and imagining adjuncts diagnoses 22% #EMConf
@radleybalko Big fan of yours. Asking honestly - not arguing - what would be a good alternative? I.e., how could you get people those checks without some sort of method of identification (that was scalable to the entire country), without massive fraud?
some pearls from an article by Martin Tobin about when to intubate patients with COVID (yep, the same one who edited Tobin's textbook on mechanical ventilation)... (#1/6)

@DrKhaldun I'm an ED/ICU doc in SE Michigan. I've been trying for over a week to get in touch with someone about working at the TCF Field Hospital, but myself (and colleagues) have been unable to find anyone who knows who to contact. Now looking at working outside MI. What gives?
A frenetic call has just come in from Sinai-Grace hospital in west Detroit -- the epicenter.
The night shift has staged a wild cat walk-off, in protest of a lack of #Covid19 staffing and equipment. To those medics, I say, please go back to work. We will pick up your fight.
@ericweinstein ER doc here. Even on a good day, there is plenty of hatred directed at administrators by ED docs. That dissatisfaction has increased immensely amongst all my colleagues lately. The other problem - many of us are seeing pay and hours cut now. Nothing similar amongst admins.
